M3.26 Managing Performance 1. Briefly explain your role in performance management a. Ensure staff is clear about what is expected from them b. Setting smart objectives to ensure they are fully focused on what they have to do c. Monitoring progress of objectives set and offer guidelines and advice how to complete them. d. Offer the staff with the resources to achieve the objectives such as training, one on one coaching and also time. e. Give feedback – positive and developmental f. Managing underperformance. 2. Give an example of SMART you have agreed for your team g. To sell 100 set menus from the 1st January 2013 until the 15th January 2013. h. To increase the average spend per head by £0.20 pence per head from the 1st January 2013 until the 15th January 2013. 3. Give an example of performance standard you have agreed for your team i. All staffs to complete and pass with a minimum of 90% in the telephone enquiry test before the 14th January 2013. 4. Explain how you would measure performance against these standards j. By having a mistery shopper calling the shop to check if the standard are up to the level and having a score on these standards 5. Select an example of underperformance that has occurred in your workplace and explain a performance improvement technique that you used to address this variance k. Underperformance : Mr x in charge of receiving all deliveries, ensuring that what we ordered is accounted for and ensuring that all invoices are amended as per delivery. However for the past few weeks, he has not done so and his performance for the past few weeks has been affecting the stock and making the shop losing money. l.     The purpose of this report is to use the compensation system we previously developed in Phases I and II to pay people, develop plans that reward performance, add benefits into the mix, and evaluate these results. First we will look at performance-based-pay as a policy for recognizing employee contributions. Performance-based-pay is a pay plan that varies with some measure of individual or organizational performance, such as merit pay, lump-sum bonus plans, skill-based pay, incentive plans, variable pay plans, risk sharing, and success sharing. It is basically a pay plan that moves away from the traditional base pay and across-the-board increases, and focuses more on factors of performance that can increase overall productivity for a company. Performance-based-pay plans can be very effective in creating a positive impact in performance of both employees and a company as a whole, but only is the plan is designed well. In order to be successful, it is crucial that the performance-pay plan be designed to support FastCat’s business strategy and compensation objectives. To design this pay-for-performance plan, we will recommend a specific policy plan that is tailored to FastCat’s goals towards success. We will compare different performance-based plans, which include individual vs. group incentives and merit vs. incentive pay, to see which combinations will help FastCat compete more effectively.…

    After a long search for a store manager for a popular plus size women’s store, let’s call it “Betty’s”, a woman that we are going to call Sarah was hired and she had came managing a teen jewelry store and had never worked in retail clothing. Retail clothing is different from where she worked because in her previous job she did not have to completely change a store’s floor plan every month, this was called an MMP. This was very stressful, for it to go smoothly it called for her to be able to ensure all shipments of new inventory were ready to go out on the floor in a relatively quick manner. The problem with completing this task was at this particular location they had a smaller staff than other stores and the staff they had could only work restricted amounts of hours due to the sales for the store being down and this results in lower amounts of hours the store receives for the work week. The pressure of this situation caused there to be conflicts amongst the associates and the new store manager because of her lack of communication skills and the way she employed a power-based approach with dealing with the associates along with her having a dominator style of dealing with conflicts, this lead to a poor work environment.…
