The Caverns of Sonora are located 8 miles west of Sonora, Texas near Interstate Highway 10. Originally known as "Mayfield's Cave" because it was located on Mayfield Ranch, local cowboys knew of this cave for many years. The cave was professionally explored in the 1950's and developed using revolutionary techniques for showing and maintaining a cave in the most natural condition possible. Claimed by many to be one of the most beautiful caves in the world, visitors often compare sections of the Caverns of Sonora to being inside of a crystal-lined geode.…
The organization offer vacation time depending on the amount of time that an individual has been employed with the organization. A full time employee will accrue anywhere from 6.46 pay days off per pay (PDO) period through 9.53 PDO hours per pay period The vacation time is made up of accrued PDO hours. PDO hours start to accrue on the date of hire and may be taken after 90 days of being steadily employed with the organization. The accrued PDO hours are not just used for vacation time; PDO hours can be used to make up lost hours from work, funeral day, and for personal leave of absentees. This organization allows each full time employee a one week vacation after one year of employee, and a two weeks’ vacation after three years of employment and that is as high as vacation plan goes. There is at least one disadvantage that I can think of for this PDO plan, and that is that if you are taking time off for a vacation or a funeral you have to fill out paper work and everyone knows why you are absent from work. It is my opinion that an integrated paid time…

The article “Women, Children, and the Uses of the Streets: Class and Gender Conflict in New York City, 1850-1860,” Christine Stansell argues that during the nineteenth century the streets of New York were grounds of different outlooks toward children. The kids who wandered the city streets such as playing, huckstering, and committing theft or homeless, were an indication of the typical middle class moral failure due to their parents. Moralists often saw the home as a sanctified area that protected children from the harm of society. Parents whom worked, often their children worked too and did not receive the family support that social reformers claimed were essential to their spiritual and moral improvement. In New York City, the success of these reformers in safeguarding public areas indicated both the control of the middle class and the idea of women being encouraging role models in the home.…

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 (Pub.L. 111-2, S. 181) is a federal statute in the United States that was the first bill signed into law by President Barack Obama on January 29, 2009. The Act amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The new act states that the 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination resets with each new paycheck affected by that discriminatory action. The law directly addressed Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., 550 U.S. 618 (2007), a U.S. Supreme Court decision that the statute of limitations for presenting an equal-pay lawsuit begins on the date that the employer makes the initial discriminatory wage decision, not at the date of the most recent paycheck.…

In the western culture of today's society, we strongly stress the respect for other people's decision and the freedom for individual thought and belief, yet we are so accustomed to constantly judge and attempt to control others if their opinions or manners are not in an accordance with ours. Dorothy Lee is an anthropologist who studies and compares the western culture and the culture of the Navaho Indians. Through many aspects of this society she provides insight and alternative approaches into problems we experience from examining a culture that values freedom as something sacred, where individual autonomy is supported by the entire community and not subjected to age or gender. Simply put, the cultural framework of the Navaho Indians is the prospective goal of what the western society attempts to strive and achieve.…

It was an ordinary Friday afternoon, just like other ordinary afternoons. The sun was shining brightly, provoking a yearning within me to enjoy the outdoors. I positioned myself on one of the two wicker lounge chairs. They sat diagonally on the front porch, allowing the perfect angle for me to bask in the daylight. After fidgeting to get comfortable, I cradled my belly while tucking into myself and let the day seize me. Birds chirped high in the trees while a gentle wind rustled the leaves. The sun’s rays embraced me like a warm blanket, leading me into the solitude of my own daydreams.…
