Lyg Research Paper
The Louisville Youth Group (LYG) is a safe place for LGBTQ+ youth to go; available to those who are ages 14-20. Every Friday there is a meeting of the LYG where a discussion of gender identity and sexuality occurs. This is a safe place for the teens so any questions are welcomed and respected. A local Louisville pub named The New Vintage held a small benefit concert where all proceeds and donations went towards the LYG. As expected, there were many people there who are a part of the LYG. I got to talk and learn more about the LGBTQ+ community. On Thursday (9/17) my friend and I arrived at the pub unintentionally early, 8:00. The bands weren’t scheduled to play until 9:00, but we spent our time mingling with the few who also arrived early. There was merchandise for one of the bands that was going to play, and everyone was talking about them. Their name was “Boner City” and they seemed to be popular. When they played later in the night, I didn’t care much for their style but the lyrics were interesting—they would often be about recovering from drug use, heartbreak, and overall how they felt or what they’ve experienced. …show more content…
Here, I was able to talk with some interesting people. Ray, a transgendered man, and Eve, who was gender fluid, taught me a lot even though they didn’t intentionally do so. I listened and observed them, along with many others they all seemed to know, and begun to realize that I don’t know as much as I thought about the transgender/homosexual community; even though I myself am part of the community as a bisexual. I learned the difficulties everyone went through in their public schools, at their homes, and even with themselves. It was common with the majority of transsexuals to be very insecure about their appearance because they can’t look like the gender they are and want to identify

In 2004 a group of scientists found the partial skeleton of a new human species we had never seen before. Researchers called the remains LB1, also nicknamed the hobbit due to its small size. It was first believed that this new species, Homo floresiensis, was a descendent of Homo erectus that had simply dwarfed over time due to limited access to resources. However, newer studies have highlighted some of the more primitive characteristics of LB1, which lead scientists to believe that the hobbits branched off from the human family tree much earlier than previously thought.…

Push the clutch all the way down and slide your shifter into the first gear position. In order for you to catch first gear and begin moving smoothly you need to find the friction point in your clutch. The friction point is where your clutch actually catches the gear you’ve selected. To find this, use your ankle and slowly flex your foot upwards and start to depress the clutch. Since we haven’t given the car any gas the engine will stall out, but you want to remember where you had the clutch right before the car shut off; that is your friction…

El Cid, born in 1043 and dead by 1099, was a Castilian nobleman known for his military prowess. His life, defined by ever-evolving allegiances, reveals the chaotic state of Iberia during the second half of the eleventh century. The Taifa kingdoms—the successors of the Caliphate of Córdoba—divided Muslim rule, allowing Christian kingdoms to start achieving military success. This weakness resulted in the Taifas calling on the Almoravids from Morocco for military aid. While the Almoravids heeded the call, they eventually betrayed the Taifas and took much of Iberia for themselves. These events reflect the splintering of much of the Islamic world throughout the Mediterranean, which helped lead to the First Crusade. After his death, El Cid became a symbol for Christians trying to expel the Moors from Iberia. However, this symbol is a product of mythologizing, for he fought with the Taifa of Zaragoza after Alfonso VI exiled him.…

I haven’t been involved with ME to WE but I have been included in other community/school events. I went to the ‘YRDSB OUR VOICE: THE WAY FORWARD’ conference. This conference was very beneficial because it was a student-lead conference. It allowed us, students to use our voice and speak up. At the conference, I realized how important it is to use your voice in a positive way to help people. You don’t only need to use your voice; you can get your message out in any way, media, arts or verbally. I learned that student voice is important because, we are the ones who are the future to making our world a better place. When I went back to school, after the conference, I had a tiny activity planned with my class about bullying and speaking up. With my teacher’s permission, I explained the activity to my class and they did the activity. Even though there were 2 months left of school, I could see that my classmates were starting to speak up. Even though I only had an impact on my class, it’s better than nothing.…

    Lgbtq Presentation

The major point of the presentation was to make all of us as students and future professionals become aware of gender identity. My opinion on this major point is something I never talk about because I feel like I'm being judgmental. However, I don't agree neither do I support people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA). They use this term to address the whole community as a whole. I believe having careers that interact with people make you become more sensitive of the supporters’ feelings. For instance, I want to become a Nurse and I understand that I will come across patients who are members and supporters of the LGBTQIA community frequently. I have to treat them the way I would treat someone who is straight. Yes, it will make me uncomfortable, but a great icebreaker is to start a conversation by asking their preferences and how they would like to be addressed such as he, him, and his, or she, her, and hers. This is one of the many ways you can address someone of the LGBTQIA community and that’s just simply making them feel comfortable for the time we have to spend together as I care for them.…

I am a volunteer at the West Island LGBTQ+ Youth Centers. I attend drop-in hours twice a week and contribute to a safe and supportive environment for struggling LGBTQ+ youth in the West Island of Montreal. I have attended events and spoken at colleges and high-schools to inform and promote a positive image of the LGBTQ+ community. These presentations at high-schools have been particularly fruitful as they often sparked conversations with the students about homophobia, transphobia and bullying. I consider this work a positive contribution to LGBTQ+ youth as my work has helped normalize and humanize people in the queer community through education and outreach, but also, I have acted as a source of support for many struggling LGBTQ+ youth in my…

A musician grew up playing guitar with friends and family. He also joined band in high school to further his education in music theory. Dealing with life, his only way to cope was to write his problems out on paper. These scribbles later became the lyrics to the album he produced with his band. Every weekend the band would travel to Dallas, Texas and perform their music at clubs in Deep Ellum. After several months, it seemed like their hard work was in vein. Then one night, they received an email from a booking manager. He was at the last show, caught the T-shirt the lead singer threw into the crowd, and wanted them to be a part of his tour. It included five States and a…
