Lupe had a lot of obstacles in her way of becoming a successful professor. First, she doesn't understand or read English so she was known as retarded. when she first go to school she was put in a class of six years old. She would always make fun of by the other children because she's a lot older than them. She would get humiliated by teachers or students. Lupe had struggled with English and also her children were put in a slow learner. They use Spanish in the family so her kids didn't understand much of English.
