Love vs. Friendship
My best friends are the most tremendous friends I could ever ask for. I can talk to them about anything, or not say anything at all. We support each other in what the other does. We can be apart for so long but when we see each other again, it's like they never left. I think that friendship is more essential than romantic love. You have the comforts that only a best friend can give you, the care and concern from friends, and even if you lose or grow apart from a friend, it can help you become a better friend. I found this quote about best friends, "'Best friend' isn’t just a name. A best friend is someone who’s there for you, no matter what. You can trust them, with anything and everything. Best friends share tears and laughs, almost like their emotions are intertwined. Most importantly, you can always count on a best friend." One of my best friends, Kevin, has been there for me through the depressing times as well as the joyous times in life. He's been my best friend since 4th grade, I trust him more than anyone. I can talk to him about anything. Even after he moved away, he's still there for me when I need him. He's helped me through a lot. Another one of my best friends, Ivie, has been my friend through tough times also. I've been there for her when she needs me. For a while, I felt as if she was one of my only friends and I was grateful for her friendship. We've been there for each other through the tears as well as the laughs of life. I can also talk to her about anything. Without my best friends, I don't know where I would be in life.A quote by Henri Nouwen says, "When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can

A best friend is someone who is always there for you, someone you can trust and who trusts you- or is it? At least, this is what most people think of when they think of the term ‘best friend’. Are these behaviors just small mistakes that every human makes or are they really worth forgiving? Can two people with this relationship still remain friends? In the book A Separate Peace, author John Knowles uses his two main characters, Gene Forrester and Phineas to show that friends can have disagreements, but major characteristic differences like jealousy…

Almost everyone has one and almost everyone is one. For me, I personally do not have a best friend. Friendship is the time that we were blasting eighties music while driving around town, all off key at the top of our lungs, but enjoying every second of it. Even a year later, when I hear that same song on the radio, it takes me back to the special times I shared with such special people. Friendship is about being able to just sit around someone’s house, and still being able to have a good time. It is silent conversations, late night talks, finishing each other’s sentences and shared secrets. It is a lifetime filled with shared memories of laughter and love. Friendship is truer and rarer than the deepest of loves because best friends really are…

    Concepts of Friendship

RBelow you will find several articles relating to the concept of Friendship in Islam. By Br. Isa Al-Bosnee Humans have always been social creatures and in need of friends and companions. Much of our lives is spent in interaction with others. For us Muslims who are living in a society where we are clearly a minority, the issue of choosing the right companions is essential for preserving our Deen. Befriending righteous and virtuous Muslims is an essential means for staying on the Straight Path. Strong individuals, on the other hand, are the core of a strong community, something that Muslims should always strive for. We all know that we were created for a specific purpose and that Allah the Most High has given us life in order to test us. None of us will deny that we are here for a relatively short period of time and that we shall meet Allah (swt) one Day. Once we know our purpose and our goal, we should seek ways to achieve them so as to benefit our own selves. All of us believe that Allah has sent us a Messenger (saws) and revealed to us the Qur’an, the Best Speech. In an authentic Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “A person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom you befriend.” (1). The person most noble in character and dealings with fellow humans gave us a very clear message and advice in regard to friendship. We should choose the friend that is satisfied with our Deen and avoid the friend that is displeased with it. Whoever we see and are pleased with his Deen, we should befriend him and whoever we are displeased with his Deen and his manners, we ought to avoid him. There is no good in the companion who does not wish for us (from good) what he wishes for himself. There is also no good in the companion who wishes for us what he wishes for himself, if what he likes for his own soul is leading him towards destruction and Hellfire. The bases for the actions of those who follow the evil ways are corrupt; their actions are built upon…
