As a couple, it's important to evaluate my relationship just to make sure that we are in the same level of expectation. For me it’s important to detect the desire and the aspect of sexual satisfaction. Being in a relationship with someone there are plenty that both partners expect from each other. A lot of theories in the book that might be helpful to evaluate my relationship such as Sternberg’s triangular theory of love and lee’s styles of loving. A couple of days ago, I was watching a movie where an English teacher asks her students to discuss ‘what is love’. Majority of the class did not know how to respond. At first, I found this odd considering that love is a universally understood emotion that can be felt by most human beings. We express the emotion on a daily basis, whether it be towards our family, friends, or significant others. However, upon some introspection, I realized that it is difficult to come up with a solid definition for it because of its subjective nature. Love exists in many different forms and holds different meanings for different people.…

In order to determine your love style, you can complete a brief quiz. Hendrick and Hendrick (1986) developed a self-report questionnaire measure of love styles. Respondents indicate their level of agreement or disagreement with the statements, examples of which include "My partner and I have the right physical 'chemistry'" (Eros) and "Our love is the best kind because it grew out of a long friendship" (Storge). There are from 3–7 items for each of the six styles described above. After I completed the love styles questionnaire, I was surprised with my final results. My mean for each individual love style test was 1.4 for Pragma, 2.5 (Eros), 3 (Ludus), 3.28 (Storge), 4.57 (Mania), and 4.71 (Agape).…

Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. In Raymond Carver’s, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love,” the idea of love is discussed from multiple points of view. What is “love?” How do we define it? Can it genuinely exist in modern society as in Shakespeare’s stories? A literal dictionary definition of the word shows it to mean a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. Doesn’t that sound just romantic?
