Love is Love
Imagine being in love with someone so deeply that you want to spend the rest of your life with that person, and ask for his or her hand in marriage. But you aren’t able to because you and your lover are of same sex, and live in a state like Texas where gay marriage is prohibited. There is a loophole though, you do have the option of traveling one thousand miles to the closest state that allows you to wed. Initially, some people may think that’s okay, it’s just another adventure in your life right? But, think about how that must feel. Having to move and say goodbye to friends, family, probably a job and a house. Giving up everything you’ve established, and then starting all over, simply because you want to marry the person you love. The main argument against gay marriage is religion, that it’s against certain religious faiths for a woman and woman or a man and a man to be married. It’s only permitted to one man and one woman. Now, I don’t know about other religions but I do know that in Christianity homosexuality is described as a sin. However, it’s not described to be greater than any other sin. Therefore homosexuality isn’t worse than arrogance, arguing, bitterness, things we all encounter or do as humans.
Also there are things described in the bible that we now have laws against doing such as spanking a child. The bible clearly states, “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die....the rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.” (Proverbs 23:13-29:15). Today something done even along the lines of this statement would be condemned as child abuse. This points out that things change, everything evolves, and I believe that not accepting gays and gay marriage should be the next thing to change.
I should clarify that I’m not bashing religion or Christianity specifically; I’m Christian and most of the people I know who support gay marriage are Christian also. Instead, I’m

Some people fear that if gay people are allowed to marry then it will undermine the very institution of marriage. This however is not true, as the whole concept of marriage is that two people who love each other bond together forever. A large percentage of straight marriages up to 40% end in divorce, but in gay marriages it is as low as 5.4%. Marriage is suppose to be forever, and lower divorce rates means more successful marriages.…

Many churches preached against gay rights, saying things like, “Homosexuals are sinners, god didn’t want this, and my favorite, god made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” “Leviticus 20:13 - If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.” (Bible). When people read things like this in the bible it’s basically telling them it’s okay to discriminate against others, such as homosexuals. It is so wrong that the bible consists of sch horrible, degrading passages, saying if a man is in sexual relations with another man they should be put to death. The bible also states, “Leviticus 18:22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.” Don’t get me wrong I see no problem believing in god, but I don’t believe people should take the bible as serious as they do. The bible doesn’t only talk about discrimination against homosexuality, it also talks about how women must listen to their husbands, and different foods you shouldn’t eat because if you don’t obey the bible you are going to hell. Leviticus 19:27 reads, “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.” That’s basically saying you can’t cut your hair or you’re going to hell, which is complete stupidity. The bible also states, “You are to keep my statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.” The bible just has ridiculous “laws” that you must abide by like not mixing two fabrics, therefore saying you can’t wear polyester. I think it’s foolish that many people know the bible has irrational passages written in it, but insist on saying, “According to the bible homosexuality is…

Gay marriages have been one of the hottest and controversial topics in our society. There are still problems concerning this issue of homosexuality and gay marriages. Same sex marriages are legal in Hawaii, but in all other states couples must be of the opposite sex to form a marriage. Hawaii’s decision to legalize same sex marriages is considered a milestone victory for gays and may cause a ripple affect for similar action in other states. Those who support gay marriages justify their position by the concept of love. These supporters of gay marriages feel as though gay people are being deprived of their right to love. Many people believe that gay people deserve the right to love and to take that love and form a marriage. These people believe that gays want to feel justified, meaning that as a couple they should be able to define their own marriage for themselves and make their own set of rules. Supports of same-sex marriages feel as though homosexuals are being deprived of their God given right to get married. They believe that arguments against same sex marriages are unconstitutional, and they simply do not justify a ban on same sex marriages. It is not the idea of two people of the same sex getting married that frightens people so much, but it is the thought of change and the fact that the federal government will redefine marriage to allow same sex unions. When people picture the results of same sex marriages, they see images of unstable homes. Everyone would probably agree that homosexuality has changed our society, and legalizing same sex marriages is not likely to be an exception. It would be an injustice to discriminate against a person if he or she were…

Gay marriage seems to be one of the biggest topics today. There are people who agree and disagree about gay marriage because of religious factors. Religious groups, for example, Christians are divided by this issue. “Some Christians argue that it is immortal and disgracing God’s only wish which is to make children. Others argue that same sex couples are created by God, and should be able to have the same rights as any other regular couple” (Debate). There are some religions that just open reject the idea of gay marriage. “An example would be the Islamic faith, because the story of Lot in Sodom condemns homosexuality” (Debate). Same sex marriages are a problem today because people have different views based on their religion, and the fact that back then it was unheard of to even be thought as…

To get around this, people have started to claim that gay marriage would devalue marriages. One would then have to take into consideration that millions of people get divorced now-a-days, even people in the Christian community. how can one action be legal and not the other? Wouldn't divorce be just as bad in the eyes of God? But yet people think Polygamy is okay? More than one wife/husband, but can't accept two of the same being in love, and married? This world is filled with hypocritical judgemental people.…

The point of marriage is to build a family and future with loved ones. There is no way that two men or two women can establish that by themselves. We all know that in order to have children both men and women are needed. Meaning a man cannot have his own child without the woman and a woman cannot have her own child without man. So if gay couples cannot have their own children, it will lead to an adoption and unhealthy children. If both man and woman is needed to produce a child and build a family then gay marriage is not meant to be because marriage is plain pointless if spouses cannot produce their own…

One of the major reasons that gay marriage is currently illegal is due to the religious interpretation that "homosexuals are sinners." Such a religious perspective should have no place in federal, legal matters in the United States. We live in a secular society that maintains secular views. The Ten Commandments do not define our legal system, so why does the religious argument "marriage is the union between a man and a woman" keep so many happy, gay couples from becoming legally married? Legalizing gay marriage will have no impact on religion and/or the religious…

Another argument that is frequently used against gay marriage is the fact that gay couples can’t naturally pro-create, and marriage is for raising children. This claim is a stretch by itself; there are thousands of married heterosexual couples that either aren’t able or choose not to have children. Also, gay couples are able to adopt children, giving them a stable home and family environment to grow in.…
