Love is Blind: A True Life Experience
Everybody has heard the saying "love is blind." Although very few of us have taken the time to apply it to our own relationships, it holds truth, for better or for worse. I spent one of my first serious relationships turning a blind eye to the faults of my significant other. He would blow me off, and I would make excuses for him. He would treat me with disrespect, and I would ignore it. He would play mind games with me, and I would grow to be even more infatuated with him. I insisted to myself that he actually loved me and cared about my feelings. My naiveté hurt me in so many ways. Looking back, I wonder how I could be such a masochist.

It was a typical weekend night for one of my best friends, Adrienne, and me. I was sixteen years old and we were getting ready to go out for the night with her friend, Jordan. He picked us up from her apartment late at night and drove us back to his house. The three of us spent the night talking and having fun. Adrienne entertained herself by playing her usual mind games with Jordan. A few hours into the evening, Jordan's brother Barry came home.

I was immediately attracted to Barry. He was tall, handsome, sweet, shy and a Marine (i.e. good body). He joined us for the remainder of the night and made random comments under his breath about me being beautiful. I was completely swept off my feet. When it was time for Adrienne and me to go home, I left with both regret and disappointment. I was regretful because I was too shy to let him know that I was attracted to him and I was disappointed because he was too shy to ask me out on a date.

When we got back to Adrienne's apartment, I let her know that I was interested in Barry. She got so excited and, of course, called him to let him know what I had just told her. After she told him what I had said, she handed the phone to me and said that he wanted to talk to me. I was bright red with embarrassment. I reluctantly took the phone from her and listened in utter silence. He said that he

There are three stories that I loved in particular during this quarter. The Things They Carried, A Roman Incident, and A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings. These three stories carried a lot of emotion and excitement. They all have different plots and backgrounds, but for the most part, there are so much in common between these three stories in a psychological, socio/political, spiritual, queer, and feminist lens. Besides those examples, the one thing that connects these three the most is that the reader can find love in all of the stories.…

Once upon a time there was a girl. One day she saw a boy she’d never met across a crowded room. Their eyes locked: she froze in her tracks, her face stuck in awe. Her blood ran cold; her fingers began to tingle as a shiver ran through her entire body. 8.2 seconds later the boy flashed her a beaming smile. His expression injected a flood of warmth into her fragile heart and her mouth involuntarily turned up to return the gesture. She didn’t know how or why but she knew at that moment that this boy was the one. This is the true and universal story of a phenomenon known as love at first sight.…

When I was ten, I lived at home with my mom, younger brothers Allen and Marcus, and our two pit bulls Willie and Rosie on Crouse Street on the east side of Akron. I was best friends with my neighbor Ron. Ron was often the one that picked out what game or activity we were going to do, which often involved riding bikes throughout the neighborhood. Ron was very tall, pale, and a year older than me. It was a typical, Friday evening, and I was eager to leave school early so I could get my belongings from my locker. Ron’s mom took us home on Fridays and didn’t like for us to be late. I headed outside around the recess section of the school that is alongside a tree line where my school has an eight foot fence blocking it off. We leaned on the fence and talked about what we did at school until his mom came to pick us up.…

By the time the first semester of fifth grade ended, my parents were well split up. I guess it was some way to put an end to the constant bickering and daily arguments. During this time period, me and my sister had bonded greatly over many hours of being locked up in the basement or shut up in our bedroom. Being the oldest child hadn’t felt as satisfying to me anymore as I had watched my sister struggle to understand the revisions our family was making, nor did I have as much clarity of the situation at the time. After what seemed like an eternity of battles, my sister and I came home from a visit at our aunt’s house to find my dad sitting on the couch with a suitcase awaiting our arrival. The suddenness set up the moment to be a blur. Even though neither of us knew what was actually happening, we had sensed all the hurt emotions rushing from my mom in the form of tears. Soon, Mandy and I added to the puddle being…

Auston, my twin brother, was still asleep. I rushed to his room, shook him, and screamed to get up because we will miss the bus. Auston jumped out of bed and started to throw clothes on to himself. In a panic, I put clothes on, picked up my bag, and ran out the door. Both of us sprinted to the bus stop. Sweat dripped down our faces and the sound of books clapping together grew loud. The bus stop was 5 minutes away from our house. It was 9:00. When we arrived at the bus stop, the bus had already departed. My brother looked at me with a devious look. I knew that look. He was about to start an argument with me, but I wasn’t going to take it. No matter what happened, arguing with me wasn’t going to solve anything. I suggested “Let’s start walking to school”. He agreed knowing there was no other option.…

My mom and I were running late. Not like it was anything new. We were supposed to be in Moulton no later than 5:30, and now it was closer to 6:00. We finally pulled into the apartment complex, where we were supposed to meet this guy, at a little after 6:00. After searching for this guy for a few minutes[->0] and a few phone calls, we assumed that we had missed him. "See Mom, you should have gotten off of work early," I said just as I saw the guy pull into the parking lot. "Hey are you ready to move into your apartment?" asked the guy. After a few minutes of struggling to get the furniture into the apartment, I figured it was the end of the adventure. A few weeks[->1] later, after getting home from work, my mom was telling me that I would never guess who had called her earlier in the day. Not being in a great mood, I just shrugged my shoulders as to suggest that I didn't really care. Then she asked me if I remembered the guy who we had met just a few days before. She told me that he had called to ask her if she wanted to go out one night that coming weekend.…
