Love The most prevalent theme in this story is Love, which two knights are ready to battle each other to get Emily. Palamon and Arcite are knights of Thebes. They are both captured and thrown into prison for lifetime by the duke name Theseus of Athens. In prison they see Emily from the bar window and both falls in love with her. They both argue about Emily that who should get her and not, but they had sworn oath to each other to be true and loyal to each other. Palamon saying “rather that you should faithfully help me in every situation, and that I should help you: this was your oath and mine too.”(pg.87). Palamon claims that Arcite will be breaking their oath of sworn brotherhood if he continues to love Emily. Palamon wants Arcite to let his eyes of Emily and not interfere, but Arcite says “I loved her first as women and on my head I swear, love is a greater law than any other that may be given to any earthly man.” (pg.89) love replaces all other commitments. They both show each other how much they love Emily. Later on, they both somehow manage to get out of prison. First, Arcite got out and after seven years Palamon. They both suddenly meet at grove in angry looks and want to fight for Emily, while Theseus appearing there too with his wife and Emily. At first Theseus wanted to kill them, but seeing the situation of theirs he changes his mind and sets up arena for them to fight. They both are ready to do anything to grant Emily as wife. Then, Theseus builds 3 temples. Venus (the goddess of love), Mars (the god of war), and Diana (the goddess of chastity). Palamon went to Venus to ask to get Emily, Arcite went to Mars to ask to win the war, and Emily went to Diana to ask to say virgin or else marry a guy love her the most. After that, the battle begun and Arcite won the war with the help of the god that he visited, and Palamon lost, but in the end Palamon won and got Emily. Palamon won because of Pluto who sent earthquake at Saturn’s request for Venus. Arcite

    The jazz concert I attended took place in Fullerton College Theater on November 13, 2012. The Fullerton College Jazz Big Band and J- Train vocal jazz was very organized and well structured. The first song was the Open Invitation which was performed by the J- Train Vocal Jazz. The song was so interesting because the soloists had great voices. Everyone around seemed interested and amused. The J- train vocal jazz also performed the songs “Nancy McFlannery’s Cannery”, and” Fugue in D Mirror”. My personal favorite by the J-Train Vocal Jazz was “Everyone’s Boppin’” because in the beginning of the song the vocalists scat. In the performance two soloists scat at least one time, and the rest of the choir performers sing the chorus. The beat of the song was fast and the instruments that got a solo were guitar and piano. The guitar and pianos solo were amazing because you could see the relationship the soloist had with its instrument which was extremely passionate. The next song performed was “Big Brown Eyes” which was slow and full of patience. The vocalists sing bebop most of the time, and there are four soloists, the drums are just tapping, and the whole tempo of the song is slow. The big band also performed “The Keystone Shuffle”, the instruments being used were drums, bass, guitar, piano, trombone, and then there was a section of the song where the saxophone players battle each other .Both of the saxophones were going at a very fast beat. The next song performed was “Out of Town” which starts with the drums and guitar as bass. The saxophone player joins in and the whole band starts to plays together. They were all on point with each other which made the song easy to listen to. The piano, the saxophone had individual solos and in between the song there was interaction between the two. The concert was very entertaining; I really enjoyed the J-Train and Big Band. Everyone around seemed to enjoy it as well. It was sweet of the big band to dedicate the…
