An absolute monarch is a ruler who governs alone and is not restrained by laws, or a constitution. Absolutism is the belief that one ruler should hold power within a country. This could be caused by war , religious conflicts, or simply people wanting stronger leaders or protection of some sort. This lead to limited spread of ideas and religious beliefs , also many changes in the economy such as taxes. This infact is the way Louis XIV governed. One may ask well how or what did he do to achieve this power of absolution? Well for starters we could say he centralized all justice, taxation and military powers under his own authority, took personal control of whatever he bothered about, further weakened the aristocracy by forcing them to attend his court and yes the list does continue. King Louis was the perfect example of an absolute monarch meaning he ruled his country, France, as he pleased, entirely under his control.
Louis XIV ruled during time of great power, prosperity and glory. His reign had a lasting impact indeed, positive and negative. It was aid that he was called the sun king. This had to say something about the fellow. Well Louis actually chose the sun as his symbol implying that the world revolved around him therefore becoming known as the sun king. He retained absolute power during his whole reign.
Louis XIV believed that it was important that he maintain absolute control over all French military forces. This would help him to prevent a civil war that could happen because of nobles constantly struggling for power.. In addition to complete control over the French military, Louis XIV wanted complete control over the French economy, and even the religion of the French people.
