Hour: 3 Awaiting My Destiny When I first got to the island, it was a hard landing. That’s when I came to meet this chubby boy with ass-mar named Piggy. He stuck to me like glue when we finally realized there were no adults on this island. Piggy and I walked the beach and found this platform where we found the conch. I blew into the conch with no luck the first time but tried again and a booming loud sound echoed in the jungle calling anyone else to where we stood. The other boys that were on the plane also came out and signs of life filled the beach. I had just called my first assembly, the first of many to come. This assembly was the most civilized of them all. In the first meeting we decided this tribe needed a chief. It came down to me or Jack. Roger came up with the civilized idea of a vote for chief. Jacks choir obediently raised their hands for him, then all the others raised their hands for me to be chief “I’m chief then.” (23) As the meeting went on I decided we needed rules for this island. The guys were all into making rules, we had many basic rules for the island and jobs for the guys. As excited as they were in this meeting I thought they would follow through with their jobs and following the island rules. But one day, I honestly couldn’t tell you how what day of the week it was, I was building shelters and realized only Simon was working along beside me. Jack’s hunting group was out trying to kill a pig again with not very much luck. The hunting group only had two jobs, to kill pigs for food and keep the fire going. I looked up at the mountain to see no fire, no smoke, and no signal. While we had no signal, I saw a ship out on the horizon. I was so furious. I raced up to the top of the mountain with piggy and his glasses to restart the fire. While trying to restart the fire Jack and his group came back chanting “Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood.” (69) By now the ship disappeared over

We shan't keep the fire going. We'll be like animals. We'll never be rescued." This quote shows how the boys don't listen to the conch as much anymore. They start to forget how the conch United them into one and they are becoming more and more savage like in and out of each chapter. No one even respects the conch at this point, but piggy. Piggy is the only one left who respects the conch and he shows it at the end. While everyone else has become savage he is left alone as the only civilized one. “The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.” Piggy is the only one who is civilized left, until the rock hits him. Once piggy is gone the author emphasizes the conch. When the rock hits piggy and the conch the author says …“the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist” hinting at the boys have lost all law, and civilization entirely. Through the story, William Golding depicts the boys becoming savages and what United them as a civilization on the island was the conch. The conch never changes its meaning, but the boys change and almost entirely forget…

In part II of the movie, the hunters finally killed the pig, and after a while of not eating, they could finally enjoy a meal. Everyone got to eat besides Piggy, and when Piggy asked for food, Jack sternly told him no. Simon offered his part of the pig to Piggy, and he accepted. Simon shows how sincere he is in part II of the movie. After the assembly about whether or not there is a ghost, Jack went against the rules and split up from Ralph because he was angry that Ralph opposed going after the beast. Ralph wanted to give up on being chief, but Simon decided to stay back with him and encourage Ralph not to give up on being the leader. Piggy is tries to be helpful in many cases while Simon mainly keeps to himself. One of the ways that Piggy is helpful is when the groups split up he comes up with the idea to make another fire. When Piggy came up with this idea Simon thought that is was best if he went off on his own to look for the “beast.” While asthma and seizures are both things that the two boys struggle with they are two different types of things. Asthma holds Piggy back from the group many times like when he doesn’t get to go swimming or when he can’t quite keep up with the group. Seizures make Simon feel like an outcast so he tries to not be around others when he has them. The final aspect that contrasts the boys is their ways of death. The Rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist ( Golding 131. ) While Piggy was killed on purpose by Roger, Simon was killed more by accident. He was coming out of the forest at night trying to tell the boys that the beast wasn’t real however, he scared the boys because of his ragged look so they fought Simon thinking that he was the…

In the first few pages of the book we see that the boys are stranded on a uninhabited island. Thanks to Ralph’s conch, all the boys grouped up together. Once again as a group, they choose themselves a leader, which turned out to be Ralph, and once the formalities were over, who brings up the point that they’re stranded on an island with nobody’s knowing? Why none other than our loveable friend Piggy. “Who knows we’re here? Eh? Nobody knows where we are. Perhaps they knew where we were going to; perhaps not. But they don’t know where we are ‘cos we never got there.”(page 34) This shows Piggy’s more social side, because he expresses this idea to the entire group of boys, and showing the bond he has to civilization. We can see Piggy’s is a very civilized and sophisticated child, always remembering all the useful thing his auntie taught him. These two small yet very relative examples show the bond Piggy has to society.…

In the story Lord of the Flies, the theme, no one man should have all power, is conveyed. This theme can relate to modern day life all over the world. For example, the state of North Korea is terrible. The entire country is ruled by one man, Kim Jong il. It is a dictatorship, and life for everyone there is abominable. In the book Lord of the Flies life is similar. Ralph began as the dictator, having Jack as his main helper, but soon Jack revolted and tried to overthrow the chief. This is shown several times throughout the novel when Ralph and Jack, the main characters, fight over who should be chief, and argue about the biggest priorities, like keeping the fire going. The boys on the island become indecisive over who should be the ultimate ruler of the tribe, and if he should join him. Towards the end of the narrative, Ralph can be known as the only rational boy left on the island.…

    1. The conch being inexpertly blown and the fact that Piggy has only one lens shows that society has begun to function poorly. The reason for this decline in society is Jack. Jack broke Piggy's lens, and now Jack who has power, represented by the conch, does not know how to blow it properly. This tells us that Jack is an inept leader who misuses power and destroys knowledge. To become an expert at something, such as blowing a conch or leading a society takes time, so this is also significant because it shows that Jack has just recently come to power. Because the conch and Piggy's glasses are crippled, knowledge and power are crippled, but not yet fully eliminated.

2. When Simon says, " I think we ought to climb the mountain.", he means…

“The rock struck piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee”, and he fell off the cliff and died as the conch “exploded into a thousand white fragments.” (181) Piggy died after trying to help everyone and did nothing really wrong or against anyone. Piggy died an innocent death just like Simon because he had done nothing wrong but stand up for himself. He had tried to help Ralph all the way until he died and had helped Ralph realize what was happening. Thoughtful and smart, Simon was dragged along by the littluns to get the fruit “they could not reach”(56), then Simon “passed the fruit back down to the endless, outstretched hands”(56) of the children. Simon is nice and thoughtful, he had done nothing wrong and was just helping out the littluns and Ralph. Simon is like a mocking bird because he did nothing, but just trying to help out as much as he could, yet he still died innocently when the hunters mistook him as the beast. After trying to get Piggy's specs back and Piggys death, samneric are left with no say against Jack yelling,”what d’you…

Some people on this island just don't realize that they've got to put first things first if they ever want to be rescued. Today we could have been saved by a passing ship, had Jack and his stupid hunters paid attention to the rescue fire. You see, it's their job to maintain and watch the fire. Unfortunately, Jack and his hunters picked today of all days to neglect the fire and when a ship passed by the island, there was no signal to be seen because the fire was dead. When Jack and the hunters returned from their hunt, they were chanting a frightening chant and carrying a dead pig. Ralph reprimanded Jack for his lack of responsibility, and Jack got mad but he apologized. When I complained about the hunters' immaturity, Jack hit me real hard and broke one of the lenses of my…
