Thesis: In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows how the boys portray both their good sides when first arriving on the island and how they slowly bring out their evil sides the more time they spend living there.
Blueprint: In the beginning of this novel, Golding shows the good side of the boys. They seem as if they will be able to handle the situation of living on the island maturely by the way they organize themselves. However, as time goes on, the boys slowly resort to savagery as Golding emphasizes this with many events. The source of good they once had is taken over by evil. The island - The island represents good and evil. It stands for a new independent life without any adults who rule the childrens’ life. So it is like treasure island at first glance. The island is full of life - there are animals and lots of fruits to make food of. It has an idyllic effect which, however, is deceptive. - The fruits cause diarrhoea and stomach-aches. There is also the heat which is overwhelming. Some “littluns” are afraid of the island because of its alleged beasties, and therefore have nightmares.
