Analysis of Ralph's Leadership in 'Lord of the Flies'

Ralph, The Leader of The Boys In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding tells a story of a vast group of English schoolboys who become stranded on an island due to a plane crash. They learn of each other's existence when Ralph blows a conch shell and holds the first meeting. Along with Ralph, there is a group of choir boys, younger boys who they call "littluns", and a boy named Piggy. The boys vote for Ralph as "chief." The choir boys already have a leader, Jack. Jack feels that he has more qualified skills than Ralph does and that he should be the leader. The boys stick to their choice because Ralph brought them all together. As the reader continues to read the novel, he or she can see that Golding uses the two main characters, Ralph and Jack, to contrast the different leadership qualities that they both possess. The best leader of the boys in Lord of the Flies is Ralph because he shows great leadership qualities, such as being civilized and courageous throughout the novel. Ralph’s civil mannered behavior helps him to be organized and courteous. Ralph sets up an organized way to plan what the boys need to do for survival and rescue. At the beginning, Ralph uses a conch to gather all the boys and makes a rule that whoever has the conch can talk
No one else acts like Ralph which really made him stand out as the best leader in the novel. The significance of Ralph being the best leader because without him there would be no chance of survival and chaos. A good leader is someone that takes control and gives advice and guidance to the group. The boys need a strong leader because they are young and do not know what to do in adult situations, like this one. The most important leadership traits are control, confidence and being equally balanced. Ralph is defiantly the best leader and everyone can agree on
