Lord Of The Flies Leadership Analysis
Throughout the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the reader can identify the different leadership strategies used by Jack and Ralph. There are many examples why Ralph is a more beneficial leader and influence to the tribe than Jack. Although Jack proved suitable leadership qualities at key points in the novel, the poor choices continually made by this character show the audience that with Jack as leader the tribe is not guaranteed survival. For the duration of the novel the reader can see that both boys go through certain events where leadership skills are used to make decisions for the tribe. Even though Jack is a more powerful leader and gains followers by letting everyone do whatever, Ralph makes the best influence for the tribe

The reader can see that Ralph is more kind-hearted, level-headed, and isn't a natural leader. While Jack is a naturally aggressive person, makes everyone hunt and have fun, manipulates the tribe to kill two people, and rules by fear. Since Ralph isn't a naturally controlling person this gives Jack an advantage to be more aggressive with the tribe, as stated in a cited source “Ralph is not forceful by nature and could not manipulate like Jack could.” (Gradesaver). Ralph mainly uses fair reasoning while Jack just does whatever suits the situation. Jack seems to be more funner than Ralph to the littluns since the boys are still growing up. In a cited source it says “The boys want to be told what to do; they want to have "fun" and they are easily manipulated.” (Gradesaver) this indicates that the younger boys don't even know what to do. Unlike Jack, Ralph hasn't injured or killed anyone. While Jack had punched Piggy, made the littluns think there was a beast resulting in the tribe killing Simon, and had the tribe drop a rock on Piggy while a couple of boys were disagreeing with Jack.
