Lord Of The Flies And The Conch Analysis

The classic novel “Lord of The Flies”was written by William Golding and published in 1954. Airplane with boys from a military school going back home. But there was a war and the plane got hit by something and crashed into an island. Pilot and Co-pilot died on impact’ so there was only boys under 14 years old that was on the plane who survived and needed to survive until they find someone to rescue them. the boys started to make shelter for they can sleep at of course. They also separated in groups so they can get everything done faster and all at once. The 2 symbols that are important in this novel is the Conch and Piggy’s Glasses.

The Conch is a shell piggy found in the ocean. The Conch is a specific shell you find in the ocean. When you blow in it. it makes a loud noise almost like a whistle. The Conch Symbolizes who can talk in the meeting they set up by blowing it. “His ordinary voice sounded like a whisper after the harsh note of the Conch.”(17) So when Ralph blew the conch he didn’t blow it right so it came out with a small ugly sound. once after that he blew it right and a loud sound came out and kids start
tool for the boys can be rescue so they can make a fire to signal people. The glasses was used to make fire. It helped them try to signal a S.O.S. fire/smoke so someone can see them so they can get rescue. “life became a race with the fire and the boys scattered through the upper forest.”(41) All the boys went to get more wood/branches so they can keep the fire incontrol. So that it won’t have the fire go all crazy. The glasses help the boys to send a signal fire, also keep them warm.Last but not least so if they kill the pig they can cook it so they don’t have to eat it raw and get sick. If piggy never had glasses they would have to find fruit to eat or try to find flint if there was any on the island. Also go hunt for fishes in the ocean and eat it raw. Piggy’s glasses symbolizes as a survival
