As we age we lose the thrill of imagination, the value of it. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding this very much happens when pre-teen boys crash on an island. The longer they stay on the island less we see of them when the first crashed on the island. The boy’s actions and beliefs turn from innocence to corrupt. In the book there are many examples of innocence to corruption these are the examples of Jack, blank, and blank.…

In the first few pages of the book we see that the boys are stranded on a uninhabited island. Thanks to Ralph’s conch, all the boys grouped up together. Once again as a group, they choose themselves a leader, which turned out to be Ralph, and once the formalities were over, who brings up the point that they’re stranded on an island with nobody’s knowing? Why none other than our loveable friend Piggy. “Who knows we’re here? Eh? Nobody knows where we are. Perhaps they knew where we were going to; perhaps not. But they don’t know where we are ‘cos we never got there.”(page 34) This shows Piggy’s more social side, because he expresses this idea to the entire group of boys, and showing the bond he has to civilization. We can see Piggy’s is a very civilized and sophisticated child, always remembering all the useful thing his auntie taught him. These two small yet very relative examples show the bond Piggy has to society.…

The symbols in the book "Lord of the flies" all reinforce the theme of the novel. All of the characters themselves were very symbolic. Ralph is a symbol of civilization, he is always the one who attempts to organize and accomplish things in order to better the group, like the fire and the building of shelters. Jack, on the other hand, is a symbol of anarchy. The struggle between Ralph and Jack is symbolic of the struggle between the forces of civilization and anarchy, or the struggle between moral conscience and the heart of darkness. The central symbol itself is the "Lord of the Flies," which implies destruction, decay, demoralization, hysteria, and panic, which were all seen throughout the book, and fits well with the novel's themes. In "Lord of the Flies", Golding was trying to capture three main different ideals by symbolizing what Ralph, Jack and Lord of the Flies all stand for.…

Jack still had some innocence in him, and more importantly, a fear of killing. His hesitation shows that he could not actually bring himself to kill the pig; scared of what it meant or what would happen if he did. After this hesitation, for which he is most ashamed, Jack's bloodlust grows more and more irrational. Although his way of behaving…

The characterization of Piggy shows that people who do not fit in are often maltreated. Golding portrays Piggy as a social outcast by characterization. Piggy tells Ralph, “that’s right. Can’t catch my breath. I was the only boy in our school what had asthma” (Golding 9). Piggy is different from the other boys in the island. His asthma makes him not fit in and the boys treat him cruelly because of it. Piggy is also a social outcast by his obesity, shortness, and spectacles. Golding describes Piggy as, “He was shorter than the fair boy and very fat he came forward, searching out safe lodgments for his feet, and then looked up through thick spectacles” (Golding 1). Piggy is plump, wears glasses, and is undersized, the boys use all these disadvantages to make fun of him and make him not fit in. They call him Piggy because of his overweightness, which he hates and feels sadden by. The portrayal of Piggy as obese, asthma, eyeglasses, and his shortness are to show those who are not will misuse people who do not fit in.…

In the novel Piggy is described shorter than the fair boy, Ralph, and very fat. He wears a ‘greasy wind breaker’ and is constantly complaining about his asthma. The other boys on the island ostracize poor Piggy from the beginning because he had a different kind of accent and was physically weak, overweight, had pale skin and constantly complained about his asthma. Poor Piggy was also myopic and couldn’t really see anything without his spectacles. Even though the boys made fun of him all the time Piggy was rational, and constantly warning the boys about their behavior and foolish ways. Later in the novel it seemed like the boys started to see Piggy as just another animal, calling him a “bag of fat” as they called the pigs or even worse the “fat boy”…

Piggy is an overweight boy with asthma that can not see without his glasses. In the novel he represents physical weakness and mental strength. Piggy’s obesity and poor sight help show that he lacks in physical well being, also his glasses help illustrate his intelligence. In the novel Piggy provides ideas that are valuable to the group. His ability to be logical in situations helps Ralph lead the group. But because of Piggy’s lack of physical appearance he is not treated like as leader like Ralph and Jack. Piggy has contributed to the group numerous times. He has helped Ralph become leader by identifying the conch and how to use it. Piggy always stands by his ideas and decisions; he defends his system of having names and having laws. When Piggy dies all the law and order dies with his as well. In many instances Piggy was either ignored or threatened by other boys. Piggy was a main target for Jack because of his lack of physical strength and the need to be logical. The only ideas that were considered being used were the only ones that Ralph had suggested as the group would not listen to Piggy. Later in the novel when the boys separate into different groups the need of fire for survival overwhelms humanity and forces Jack and others to steal Piggy’s glasses, another factor of Jack’s decision was because of…

If you could combine Ralph’s zest and charisma and Piggy’s intelligence you would have an ideal leader, but Piggy alone cannot be a successful leader. Piggy lacks Assertiveness, and Confidence, which are the two natural leadership quality’s I mentioned in the first paragraph. It’s possible that Piggy could develop these traits over time, given that he is still a teenager, but it is rare that someone’s personality changes so drastically. No matter how intelligent Piggy may be, that intelligence is useless if it cannot be utilized to…
