Looking for Alaska

1) Looking for Alaska, starts out with a, “before” section and has each chapter counting down to an unknown event. John Green introduced the main character with pronouncing that Miles Halter was leaving his school and family in Florida to go to a boarding school in Alabama. Miles never really had friends and was hoping to seek a, “Great Perhaps” at Culver Creek Preparatory School. His parents drop him off, resentfully, and Miles was on his own. He met his roommate Chip Martin (the Colonel) and he showed him around. Miles met Alaska and Takumi and they gave him the nickname Pudge. Throughout the story, Pudge becomes really close with his three friends and they are all out to get the, “Weekday Warriors” or the rich kids. A group of guys from that pack pranked Alaska by flooding her room, destroying her books, for ratting on their friend and got her kicked out. After that they almost killed Pudge by throwing him into the lake tied up. The section leads up to them getting the Weekday Warriors back by dying their hair blue and sending out failing progress reports. During all the commotion of revenge, some drama between the group occurs. Pudge has the biggest crush on Alaska, but she is in a serious relationship with her boyfriend. Alaska actually sets him up with a girl named Lara and he actually gets his first girlfriend. At the end of the section all of them were drinking in Alaska’s room when she wanted to play Truth or Dare. She dared Pudge to make out with her and they did. That same night Alaska starts freaking out saying she needs to get out and gets the boys to cover her from the Eagle (principle). Then the book changes to, “after”. 2) Miles Halter has undergone a very significant change in this section. In Florida, he did not have any friends going into his junior year. He knew he wanted to break out of his shell but he felt like he could not do it there. By letting people in at his new school he was able to actually relax and have fun. Miles also changed...
