Look before you leap

There is a proverb which is “Every man for himself, and the devil takes the hindmost.” It totally reflects the human nature. As a matter of fact, Human beings are selfish when they are born.

To begin with, doing something to harm people but gain benefits to oneself is the most ordinary behavior of selfish. To your curiosity, you may want to know what benefits can prompt them to harm people. Obviously, money is not an isolated example. In accordance with the monstrous news about Melamine, for the sake of earning more moeny, some unscrupulous businessmen manufacture the bad quality milk powder which would harm baby’s health. It is beyond doubt that those businessmen are exceedingly mean. Anyhow, to gain benefits by means of harming others is utterly unacceptable.

What’s more, the selfish behavior would not only harm people, but also the environment including lives of animals. For instance, in order to obtain resources, people damage the ecological environment unceasingly. Such action would eventually influence the animals as well owing to losing their habitats. Apart from these, there are numerous animals are killed because of our demands for eating meats. Take chicken as an example. Accoding to the statistic from Food and Agriculture Organization, there are about fifty billions of chickens were killed in 2009 in the world. This is extremely horrible. Accodingly, we are guilty of killing so many animals on the gronnds of our selfish behavior.

In addition to harming others, doing something that seems to be of benefit to others but actually advancing one’s own benefits is also selfish. Notwithstanding beneficial to others, your original purpose is merely for oneself. Imagine if you cannot gain any benefits after doing something, will you still do it without reservation?
