Longer Lunch
Lunch is a time during school when students can take a break and enjoy their time. Right now students are eating as fast as they can so they can socialize for maybe a minute or two. Then, they spend time talking in class and get in trouble for it. “We need longer lunches!” That is what Dylan Haselhoff, a student at Havre de Grace middle school, said. The best way to have students talk less in class is to make lunch longer. First of all, lunch is the only period in the day where students are allowed to socialize with each other. This will cause less talking in class. With the extra time in class, students will learn more. It would also make kids like school and want to come knowing that they have more freedom at school. A longer lunch would give students more time to properly chew their food. They wouldn’t have to gobble their food up which would cause stomach aches and illnesses. Colin Dean said “I think we need longer lunches so I can eat my food properly.” The students would be able to enjoy and digest their food properly. The students would finish their food in a reasonable time and then be able to socialize with friends. Finally, longer lunches would allow students to finish eating and catch up on any work they have missed. This would allow them to be caught up in class. They would also make their projects neater and more creative with the extra time to work on them. As a result of that, students would do better in school and get better grades. Some people might say that students will make bad decisions with all of the extra time they have. I disagree with that. This is a way to teach students responsibility. They will know it is a time for them to have freedom and not abuse it. There would be teachers monitoring so students wouldn’t make the wrong decisions. Whoever can’t behave will be in trouble, just like the rest of the day. Lunch would be better if it was longer. A longer lunch would give students time to eat their food properly, socialize with friends, and catch up on any work they have missed. Though some people are worried that students will make bad decisions with extra time, there will be consequences for students who can’t act right. Students will behave better in class if they have more time at lunch.

The number one reason is it is better for the students. This gives them more time to get too their lockers, so they can get thongs for the next class. The locker don’t always work in our favor, they tend to jam up from time to time. Locker jams are one of the big reasons why students are late to class. Also the lines in the girl’s restroom are absolutely ridiculous. Most the time they are almost all they way into the hallways. Especially right after lunch. Neither student nor teacher could fix that kind of issue. Adding more time will give students not only more time to get ready but also more time to get focused for their next class. Plus it’s really hard to remember everything when you’re in a rush.…

School lunches are a big part of our schools. They feed us every day and make sure we are full. They feed us food, but they don't feed us very healthy food. Parents have tried very hard to get that to change for their children. I think they should improve our lunches to make sure that kids are getting the food and nutrition they need.…

“So from eating out, we can also learn how to make wise choices.” This would make students prepared for college by enabling them to leave campus and eat what they want. This independence would get kids ready to face the real world. “It provides a semi-sheltered climate to allow students to grow and become responsible.” This would give teens the privilege of not being watched every second of the day. If students disobeyed the rules of when they should be back, they could take away the privilege or give punishment. Throughout high school students don’t have very many opportunities to show how independent they are any letting them leave for lunch would be a perfect way for teens to show teachers they can be trusted and can survive in the real world.I know a lot of high school students who are very shy and keep to themselves. With the ability to leave school during lunch, kids would become more outgoing because there would be many more chances for them to socialize and interact with the real world. “If students have the privilege of off-campus lunch, they will gain more responsibility and more experience on how the real world works.” All kids have a big part in the future of our job…

Responsibility is heavily enforced anywhere you go, especially in schools, a big part of this is learning to do things on your ow. Having more lunch options can make students think about some of the healthier options or the cheaper priced item if on a budget or a diet. They can also learn how they can make good nutritious a meal with the money they have. The lunch room could have a regular meal, such as a cheeseburger or a chicken sandwich, a salad bar, with just a normal green salad or mix it up and have a daily salad schedule, like a regular salad one day and chicken salad and crackers or bread the next day. We could also benefit from a sandwich station, with ham, turkey, cheese and other toppings. There would now be something for everyone to choose from. They students would also have to choose their sides and watch the prices so that to justify as a meal. The salad bar or sandwich station may cost a little extra so it would be good for students to have to learn to watch what their lunch money account has in it often. School lunches cost around $2.50, but a salad bar could be up to $5.00 according to The Playwickian. This does not include any add-ons like as parfaits, chips and such. By giving students more options they can become more independent and…

Schools should make sure that the lunch they provide is nutritious. Julia Tofan, a high school student in Connecticut states, “Students deserve balanced meals that will enable our minds and bodies to power through our busy days -- not a sugar rush that won't last beyond the lunch period” (Tofan and Millerick 1). Tofan is insisting that school lunches should be healthy. School providing junk food to the students are failing them because those are calories that break down easily. Once that food is gone the students will be hungry again making lunch a waste. However, healthy foods will stick with students throughout a longer period of time as well as helping students become healthier. Schools providing nutritious lunches will allow students to…

In an article written by Liz Nakazawa about the school lunch problem, she states that “childhood obesity rates and student tendencies to graze on vending machine and fast food fare are only going to worsen, some experts say, if lunch periods become rushed or occur too early or too late to coincide with peak hunger periods.” When schools are forced to have many lunch periods, then logic will tell us that they will not be very long. When a student only has twenty minutes to stand in a long line just to get their lunch and then find a place to eat it, many students will choose to forgo the line and just grab a quick snack and a soda from the vending machines.... A variety of food choices outside of school will benefit a student's health. Likewise, teens need the option to go out and take a break from their 8 hour school day. According to a student on Change.org, “refreshing our minds before the next few classes would really help us focus more, being in a happier environment.” Students need a break from slaving in a desk all day, doing school work. Leaving school for lunch gives students some fresh air and time to relax their brain. Leaving school to go get lunch would help students with their physical and mental…

    Why Start School Later?

I think that starting the school day later would greatly benefit the students and teachers. if we started school at about say nine thirty in the morning instead of eight thirty or earlier, that would mean that most students wouldn't need to be awake in the morning till almost seven thirty to eight thirty and some kids could even wake up a little later then that depending on where they live. granite it is proven that high school students only need six to eight hours of sleep each night but there is always that few that never get the six to eight hours of sleep.…

That leads to all kinds of academic, mental, and behavioral benefits. Make schools better with just one simple step: delay the start time. School lunches lack healthy nutrients that growing children and teens need. Because, schools lack the proper funding needed to support students with healthy lunches, students have a horrible diet. A lot of people, including myself, believe that if healthy school lunches were provided students at home would make better choices when it came to what snacks they ate between meals. If schools got better funding for healthier lunches it could theoretically save the government more money because the students in turn would have less health problems.…

The first reason school lunches need to change is because they aren't nutritious.
