Long Term Homework Benefits
Imagine being in a student’s shoes, going to class and sitting there listening to the teacher talk and trying not to fall asleep because the teacher is doing all the work, while students pay attention. Some students get drained during class time because they are not being physically and mentally involved. I believe schools should require the long-term assignments over short-term assignments. Long-term assignments are easier on the student, students tend to learn a lot more, and it teaches the students soft skills. First of all, students have a lot of stress put on them from school work. Some teachers require homework to be done the next day, but what some teachers do not understand is that the student has other classes that may be a little bit more important, and require them to be more focused on that classes homework. …show more content…
Long-term assignments teaches the student oral and written communication skills. For a student to get out in the world, they will have to understand that speaking with and in front of people is not an option. Long-term assignments teaches another soft skill which is time management. Students will be responsible for taking time out of their day to work on their project. Having to know these soft skills will help the student throughout their entire life.
In conclusion, I believe long-term assignments are better for the student because they get time to themselves. They have time for after school activities and a chance to hang out with their friends. Long-term assignments are stress free on the student, students tend to learn the material faster, and it teaches the student skills they will need to be more successful. The classes I am in now are similar to the long-term assignments because my third block class we get a week to do our homework. Not every student learns the same and taking a different approach on learning will help the students

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

Homework doesn't take all day; realistically you will have time for other things. Homework allows practice for future endeavors, and teaches responsibility and organization skills. Homework allows children to work at their own pace, without peer pressure and afraid of falling behind during class. Homework allows time to study for tests, and go over work that you did in class. Reason being yes I understand that different classes have different papers and some have more worksheets than others but…

Some students don’t know what to do when the teacher assign their homework. They don’t know what to do because when the teachers assign them homework the night before to do, they spent all night doing it. Then the next day at school they are way too tired to process any work and lesson the teachers are teaching. They would just fall asleep and pay less attention. That causes the student to not know what to do and they just write down random answers. Then when they turn it in the teachers mark it wrong and give them a bad grade. Eventually with all these bad grades in their file it will bring their grades down a lot. This would just give more stress to the students and drain their energy. An average person should be getting about seven to eight hours of sleep a night not two or three…

Short class discussions can help motivate learners, help them understand the subject and so encourage them to get on with their work. It is essential for the teacher to discourage any competition and everyone should be allowed to work at their own pace. Attention spans can be short, and so easy, manageable targets will help learners stay focussed. I also find that regular short breaks help when the learners get restless.…

When most student are asked about year-round school they think it means giving up their summer, but that’s not exactly right. Year-round school doesn’t necessarily mean giving up summer vacation. There are variety of calendars school districts follow. The current school year is based on an outdated agricultural model, when families need to use their children to help them with a harvest. Most families aren’t like that anymore. It’s time to update the school calendar to reflect modern society. Year-round schooling calendar would be beneficial to students.…

An extra value of homework is that students get to become independent because it motivates accept the responsibility to do their jobs properly and accurately, without necessarily having a person next to they. They also create opportunities to learn to use the resources they have at their disposal, like: libraries, reference books, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, Internet and other, and helps to develop the skills necessary to investigate (locate, organize and condense the information).…

To begin with, kids normally get exhausted by the middle of the school week because they need a longer break. When you are tired you don't really try, resulting in not learning anything. If they had longer breaks, they could get the rest their brains need in order to reset. Not only that, but they would try to learn harder because they are ready to, not…

Year-round school would be beneficial because it helps eliminate the loss of academic information. Twelve-month school would help in “Eliminating any sort of long break from school can improve a child’s academic achievement” (Kimberly). Over summer children tend to forget what they have learned. If children do not have a long break they are more likely to not forget the majority of the things they learned. This is not only beneficial to the student, but it is beneficial to the teacher because not as much review time is needed.…

Kids should have less homework because they are using all of their time at home doing homework instead of doing something productive. The average student gets around 75% of homework each day. In class you do lots of non-stop work. Then you go home and do the same thing for 5 days. All that work could easily put you under pressure which makes you do your homework all wrong and you don't notice until you get to school. All that pressure could also fail you on a test. When you're trying to do your homework you're also studying for a test.…

The students need a little shove to practice and remember, because without knowing what was taught, they cannot improve the next year. For example, kindergarteners learn simple addition and subtraction. Over the summer, parents are encouraged to practice with their children the math skills learned so the kids can remember them for the higher level addition and subtraction in first grade. The same idea is used in the higher grades, including high school. Summer assignments are assigned for the use of the students to practice for the next years. Every skill taught the year before is used for the rest of the educational career being pursued. Even today, I have to use simple addition in Algebra two even though I was taught that about eleven years ago. Remembering what you have learned is the whole point to learning in the first place. What is the point of going to college to become a dentist if the next year after you graduate every skill and lesson is forgotten? If that were the case, everyone would have terrible teeth, doctors would not know what to do, and teachers would not be able to teach well because they would not remember what they are supposed to teach and how to teach it. Maintaining the information taught is the reason for going to school, so assignments to ensure the absorption of the…

Schools already steal six hours or more a day from a student’s life. If they can’t do what they need to do in six hours, it is not a student’s responsibility to give them more time. Homework is not for kids to learn, it’s for schools to shift the responsibility. Teachers don’t get marked on how useful classroom time is, but kids get marked on whether they did their homework or not. That means a lot of classroom stuff that isn’t working is allowed to continue as long as kids do their homework.…
