Long-Term Absolute Teachers
There are many reasons a school might be seeking a long-term substitute teacher. Maybe they do not have enough teachers, and they need someone to fill-in until they can hire a permanent teacher. Maybe an extended illness has caused a teacher to take off several weeks. Perhaps, the permanent teacher is on maternity leave. No matter the reason for the school's need for a long-term substitute teacher, the idea of being a long-term sub can be intimidating for some people. Fortunately, there are at least four benefits of being a long-term substitute teacher.

Experience

If you have a teaching degree or are working toward one, the experience gained working as a long-term sub can be especially valuable. Often you will create lesson plans, establish

I started out as a sub. I did not go to any pieces of training when they hired me when I got called in for the first time they just put me in the classroom that needed the extra help. When I first walked in, I felt very uncomfortable, because I was nervous if I did anything out of the ordinary or if I mess up the lesson plan. I also did not know to interact with the children. Thankfully I had an old high school friend, Cecilia Ceja, who was in the same room.…

I have had the chance to serve as a tutor, a peer advisor, and as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses while I was an undergraduate and in my current role as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Through these positions, I had to chance to lead class periods and I have found that I enjoy teaching at the university level, as compared to the times that I have helped with elementary and middle school classes. I fully enjoy seeing students finally understand a concept they have had trouble with and connecting students with their passion. Watching them take that spark and ignite it into something much larger than themselves has been one of the most rewarding…

    Teacher Tenure

Tenure was first adopted for professors in universities to prevent their dismissal based on political, personal, or other non-work related reasons. It was a protection against any form of dismissal which was unjustified and unfair. Currently tenure is available for K-12 grade level teachers and is granted after a couple of years of evaluation. Although this protection is granted to teachers of all grade levels tenure can potentially and does present problems with the dismissal of unqualified teachers. Tenure prevents teachers who are under performing from being fired as it is costly to the district to remove these teachers. Because of this negative effect schools nation wide are falling behind other elite schools in the world. Tenure is certainly not the only problem with public education, but it should be considered one of the greatest factors which contributes to the failure of public education. Once a teacher becomes tenured it is easy for that teacher to stop teaching at an adequate level and cause students to fall behind. Teachers union maintain that tenure provides protection for teachers yet it arguably causes teachers to simply stop caring as the process of firing them is nearly impossible and very costly. As a result many solutions have emerged in order to get rid of or better improve the process of teacher tenure. Three solutions which have been presented are reforming the tenure process by changing the amount of time it takes to fire a inadequate tenured teacher, renewable tenure contracts, and publicly recognizing and rewarding extraordinary teachers.…

California prides itself in high educational standards. The Golden State is home to many top universities. Students travel across the country just to attend these schools. While students are achieving great things in their universities getting top grades, it all had to start somewhere. Parents and teachers helped facilitate learning at a young age for these students. Many of the students attended K-12 schools that had a solid foundation of well-educated teachers. Schools and parents alike want teachers who can maintain high educational standards. In order for teachers to be effective, they must have time to prove themselves. Once a school recognizes a good teacher they tenure them. Teacher tenure is necessary in 21st California especially at the K-12 level because it is beneficial to class performance,…

Teachers have one of the most important jobs in existence. Teaching can be at times a complicated and grueling job. With ever-growing class sizes and constant budget cuts, it makes a person wonder why anyone would become a teacher. They teach because they would like to make a difference in the world, and a good teacher can change a child's life. Which is a more then enough reason to fix the problems in the education system. “There are International data comparing K-12 student achievement across many nations clearly showing that U.S. schools are failing”, according to Eric Hanushek, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank based at Stanford University in California. The tenure structure has been a mammoth detriment to the United States education system, the teachers, and most importantly the children of this great nation. Tenure was created to provide teachers with protection. It’s a policy that restricts the ability to fire teachers, requiring a "just cause" rationale for firing. Though, all it really does is give teachers the sense of slacking off on his or her lectures and dwindling the education process the child is receiving.…

    Transformational Teacher

Perhaps we no longer strange to Wendy Kopp, author of the book: "A Chance to Make History". Her book is one treasure trove of ideas has been and will be done to change the decline of American education. In these ideas, my personal favorite is the idea of transformational teacher. Why did I choose it? I find this to be the most practical idea compared with the remaining ideas through each chapter. It is not far-fetched as changing school district, or whole school system, but it is an idea has been done quite well. We do not need to wait for a storm to change the school district, there is no need to use some big funds to change the principal system. All that we need is the dedicated teachers have been equipped new teaching skills, it is also similar to the companies training their employees when there are new updates in the system. Transformational teacher is the most important thing that we need now to change education with limited funds. With new teaching skills to bring excitement for students, help students navigate the future and take the shortest path to success. Think about it, even if you change everything, then who will be the most accessible to students, who impart their knowledge? The answer is still the teacher, but not the average teacher, we need the best teachers. It doesn’t mean that we pick out the good teachers, all teachers need to be updated with new skills to become the best teachers. Learn, learn more, learn forever, even the scientists did not stop then why teachers stop. In this essay I want to talk about the skills and the influence of transformational teacher for the future of our country.…
