Loma Narrative
As the month progresses, Kayla continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. Although, she continues her battle, having her own room which has now been decorated for Halloween. I find it difficult to fight back my salty wet tears as I enter her room. She’s wearing her “Alice in Wonderland” costume. The crisp white collar on top of a Cerulean blue cotton dress. This is a holiday that she enjoys, together our family come to hang the scary black cats made of black construction paper, black bats, artificial spider webs and jack-0-lanterns pinned to her walls. Cut out white paper eerie ghosts and goblins fill the air. I can almost hear them shriek, “Boo, Boo.” The smell of warm caramel apples filled the room.

On December 18, 2015 I had heard once that day that it was snowing. That crisp, pure snow was falling right outside the theater where 50 dancers, including myself, were rushing to get ready. I didn’t get to see it that day, but I wish I had. I was with two of the best friends you could ever ask for. Each of us was dressed in our own version of an 1800's party dress, like we always are when we preform Tchaikovsky's Classic Nutcracker. Abby's having an odd flower design over deep burgundy, Jadyn's had a full blue dress with an abnormal piece of cloth working as a chest plate, and mine could be used as a purple and gold checker board based on the pattern. Abby, Jadyn, and I were setting up the last of our props when we realized that a doll was missing.…

Annie Makes a Mess of her New Red Dress sprouted from a seed of a few ideas about a little girl who receives a new dress and has trouble with it. The purpose of my children’s book is to communicate the different elements of life that small children love or hate such as birthday parties, lollies, balloons, parks and playgrounds. Another purpose is to educate children about overcoming adversity and the fact that it’s never as bad as they think. There are many themes in this book but the main ones are adventure and overcoming adversity.…

The Art Centre Theatre in Plano, Texas showcased a marvelous play based on Tim Burton’s movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Originally generated as a poem, this tells a story about Jack Skellington, a citizen of Halloween Town, who coincidentally tumbles upon a portal that leads to Christmas Town and becomes determined to celebrate the holiday with barbarous and witty repercussions. The cast and crew members of the Art Centre Theatre executed the play miraculously.…

“I’ve been drinking since I was twelve, but I don’t think I was exactly twelve. Maybe older, maybe younger. I’m a little tipsy now but that’s not what you want to hear. I was once told I drank like an eel, I’m not sure what that meant, but again that’s not what you want to hear. You want me to sit here and tell you the exact traumatic moment when I began drinking; It was the first time I ever had that nightmare. The next day I asked my dad why drank, he said ‘I drink to forget’. He never told me what he was trying to forget. I thought ‘I drinking makes you forget, maybe I’ll forget the dream.’ So I drank a couple of beers then went to sleep. The dream was worse than before, but that was the cycle every night for the past thirty-five years.”…

Thursday February 18th started out just like every other weekday. I went to school, bought a coffee, went to my classes and talked with my friends. Nothing out of the usual, nothing exciting it was just a regular day. Once school was over I walked home and went straight to my room laid down watched some Netflix talked to some friends online, as I do this most days. I took a nap from about 5pm until maybe 7pm and woke up feeling a little under the weather, I felt a bit weak, and had a cough along with a running nose and chest congestion. It’s flu season so I didn’t think much of it, I took some Robitussin around 12am that night just prior to going to bed in hopes of waking up the next morning feeling better. Before going to bed that night I…

We see animals every day. They are our pets, companions, and, to some, family. They are also our dinner, new jacket or bag, and the pain behind our household products. So when does it qualify as cruel, or even inhumane? What is animal cruelty? According to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) “Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, socialization, or veterinary care. Maliciously torturing, maiming, or killing an animal.” Three major examples of animal cruelty today are found in the food industry, shelters, and testing facilities.…

    Levite Narrative

Another narrative from when Israel had no king is recorded in this chapter. In this story, a Levite traveling through the hill country of Ephraim took a concubine from Bethlehem-Judah (v. 1). This concubine left him and went to her father’s house for four months (v. 2). The Levite went after her to speak nicely to her and bring her home, and when her father saw him, he rejoiced at the sight (v. 3). For three days the Levite stayed there, and during this time they ate and drank (v. 4). The Levite wanted to leave on the fourth day, but the concubine’s father urged him to stay longer (v. 5). This continued until the evening of the fifth day, but the Levite would not be persuaded and his entourage departed to Jerusalem (v. 6-10).…
