CASE STUDY: HESSINGEN HERB FARM
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
How does Elizabeth currently organize her logistics? What do you think are her aims and priorities?
Logistics is the function responsible for all aspects of the movement and storage of materials on their journey from suppliers to final customers. In the Hessingen Herb Farm, Elizabeth Kole personally manages the logistics matters. She personally monitors the movement and storage of her products from the raw materials to the customers.

Logistics would have played a great part in the expansion of the business from traditional crops and milk to successful market of herbs. The success of the expansion would have also greatly depended on how Elizabeth managed her logistics. Ensuring the smooth flow of her raw materials from the fields, to processing of the different herb products, to the packaging of finished products, to marketing of the product and finally the delivery to her customers, is part of how Elizabeth would have managed her logistics.

I think that Elizabeth’s goal has escalated from simply supplementing their income from the traditional crops and milk to greater income and business opportunities through the product development of herbs. She aims to further develop new products from herbs that could generate greater income for the farm. To achieve this, she utilizes technology for advertising or selling her products as well as the delivery to her customers. Also developing a good marketing strategy where people can view firsthand the fields where they grow the raw materials and the process of making the products.

What would be the effect of the expansion on logistics? What problems would Elizabeth face, and what options does she have to overcome them?

Improvement on Elizabeth’s current logistics strategy would be needed if she plans to expand the business. Since the expansion requires an extensive change in the company, an

On a more positive note, we do see a glimmer of change in Elizabeth at the end of the novel. When Hilly punishes Aibileen by framing her for stealing her silver, Elizabeth fires Aibileen, but also apologizes and refuses to press charges against Aibileen. This doesn't sound like much, but for Elizabeth it's a big step. She's actually taken a tiny stand against Hilly and is opening her eyes, ever so slightly, to the truth of…

People who disagreed with Elizabeth were primarily worried about how she wouldn’t have the capacity to manage a nation like a man could, and were backed up by the bible. Admirers had a go at spreading their convictions by talking about how rousing and supportive she was to the nation of England and its kin to pick up the acknowledgment of being the ruler. Elizabeth realized that she was being oppressed, and as opposed to sitting back and putting up with it, she voiced her opinions and proved she could be a just and loyal queen. She suppressed her oppositions that didn’t support her as a result of her sex and made an assembled nation that was more grounded than when she entered her rule. She enabled women to have confidence and to not be treated like dirt and promoted equality by being a steadfast queen and demonstrating to the nation that she was pretty much as effective as any…

First, in “The Leaving”, Elizabeth most desirable characteristic is being warm hearted. For example she is looking out for her daughter by making sure she does not freeze on their ten kilometer walk to the train station; because she forgot her wool handkerchief. “”Ferget yer hat,” said Ma. “Here” she took the warm handkerchief from her head and gave it to me. I took it.”” (Wilson108) In this part of the story, she sees past the cold weather and how much she will freeze, she still offers to give Sylvie her hat, because she does not want her to suffer. Her warm hearted personality becomes demonstrated later on in the story as well when Sylvie questions herself “”Why had we left? How long would we be gone? How would pa and my brothers cook their dinner? How would they make their beds? Who would they complain to after a hard day? Who would fetch eggs, the mail, the water, the wood, the groceries? Who would wash their overalls, mend their socks, put bandages on their cuts?” Here is shows everything she does for her husband and her four boys when they are completely capable of doing it themselves considering their age, they are practically adults. The outstanding amount of effort Elizabeth makes to please her family clearly shows that she is compassionate.…

In terms of tone, Elizabeth adopts a masculine, imperative, reassuring, caring and defensive tone, where she tries to make her people feel safe, cared for and perhaps induces their reconsideration of her alleged “canny” qualities she possesses as a leader. Elizabeth is extremely defensive of her people, threatening anyone who “dares”—as she claims—to “invade” her borders. She is also very confident; that is evident in her…
