Writing a Definition Essay
A definition essay can be deceivingly difficult to write. This type of paper requires you to write a personal yet academic definition of one specific word. The definition must be thorough and lengthy. It is essential that you choose a word that will give you plenty to write about, and there are a few standard tactics you can use to elaborate on the term. Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind when writing a definition essay
All about Nana “If your actions inspire others to dream more, do more, or become more, you are a leader”, these are wise words from John Quincy Adams. My Nana, Tonya Watson has been the ultimate leader and inspiration in my life. She does everything with an indescribable grace that inspires, comforts, motivates, and changes the lives around her. To begin my Nana is an amazing person; she is beautiful inside and out. Nana’s presence is undeniable; it is always a joy to be around her. In particular, Nana has the ability to brighten up a dark room with her cheerful laugh. All of my life I have considered her as a happy, joyful, pleasant, and lighthearted person. When I am down, I know I can count on her bright smile to cheer me up. Nana’s positive energy always rubs off on me. One special quality of my Nana is her love. This love is unconditional, and I never question if it is genuine. Sometimes I disappoint her with my actions, but through the good and the bad, she still loves me. For instance, my attitude sometimes gets the best of me. I used to allow others to determine my attitude, and I would take my frustrations out on my Nana. However, she always forgives me, her love is sincere, and it still remains unconditional. Lastly, Nana’s loyalty is a quality that makes her stand out. She constantly shows me support, and never has turned her back against me. Nana is a very trustworthy person that goes above and beyond for anyone. For example, if she makes a promise I can count on her to keep it. I often ask her for advice, and I tell her

Mariam’s mother, Nana, had a troubled childhood. Nana grows bitter after Jinn and Jalil’s abandoned her. Nana’s bitterness grows and soon consumes her. This bitterness and anger is taken out on Mariam, causing her childhood to be miserable as well. Nana’s parenting style causes Mariam to have less social skills and a very low self-esteem. Mariam never had stable parenting and lost her parents at an early age making her vulnerable to neglect. Mariam is also unable to develop socially. For example, when Rasheed marries Laila instead of seeing it as someone to help her, she sees it as a threat and becomes aggressive.…

Throughout history, there have always been leaders and followers. Whether the leaders were for the greater good or the downfall of mankind, leaders have always stood out from crowds and have inspired others to help attain their goals. According to "Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing", a leader are members of our society who are also known as the "masters of change". They are the risk takers we see who challenge status quos and those who are willing to take risks for the chance to gain something greater in life. These leaders are known to have special characteristics that get work done through the help of others who are willing to aid them in reaching their goals.…

A leader is someone who inspires people, who can be clutch as a forerunner to get started on a way of thinking; or sometimes a leader is the fearless one who steps in a place no one has dared to and when they do, they do so without remorse. A leader doesn’t look back at what has passed, but instead looks ahead at what’s to come. A leader is honest, caring and has integrity. A leader confronts challenges and does not let the voice of haters or malicious people bring them down. A great leader, not just a leader can do all of these things and when they are pushed down they can get back up and keep going like no one has touched them. A leader, who fits this description in my eyes, is Sarah Palin.…

I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads. Being a follower instead of a leader is a very childlike trait. It takes an adult, woman or man, to step up and take charge in doing what they know is best for themselves and those who follow. When I’m not being a quirky goofball Emma Jean Bouie, I’m being sophisticated, empowered woman little miss Nadia Moffet. Ever since I met Nadia Moffet, C.E.O of The Queens Foundation and Miss North Carolina 2010, she has instilled something spiritually and mentally inside of me that has helped shape the young leader I am today. From the age of 13, I was no longer just Emma Jean Bouie, I slowly became, “a beautiful, powerful and strong beyond measure woman.’…

In my final paper I plan on using definitions. I think that this will help my essay out a lot. Using definitions will tell your reader the true meaning of your paper. It will allow the readers to get a full idea of what your essay will be saying, as in the main point of the essay. With me, I am writing about why Americans should not have a credit card. So, I have to make sure I get the point across and make them not want to get a credit card. By doing this I need to really put in my essay all the bad things a credit card can cause. A definition essay will also give details about the examples that readers may not understand right away. Detail is very important in an essay to me. I have to make sure in every essay I include plenty of detail throughout. It allows the essay to stick out and pull the reader in, wanting to read more. I want my readers to really believe that what I am writing about is bad in this case. I hope to provide a lot of resources from the internet to make sure my readers know about the consequences of owning a credit card.…
