Literary Narrative: What Makes Me the Writer I Am Today

Literary Narrative Writing is something that has never been easy for me. For most of my life I have tried to avoid it if I can, but of course I can't avoid stuff like school forever. So for the most part all of my writing has been forced upon me. Even with the help of teachers and some helpful hints from the internet, it never got easier. But obviously I have written before and like anyone else who has written before, there must have been some sort of influence. My main influences were the books I have read, my teachers who have helped me throughout the years, my experience, and strangely enough my music. My first influence as a writer were books. I read all the time, in the car, during school, etc etc. I always have one on me so I'm always reading. I love to read so as a writer my style was influenced by the books I read. Though the books I read mainly consisted of adventure/fantasy, the different authors all made me their seperate impressions on me. Jk Rowling whoed me how to describe adventures, Jim Butcher taught me how to give a first person point of view, Cassandra Clare showed me what it was like to share despair and connection with multiple characters, Michael Grant showed me how portray fear etc etc. Books and their authors though have easily been my biggest influence in writing. Of course not all the books I've read consisted of strictly adventure/fantasy even though they were my favorite and the type of book I read the most. Through school and recreational readings I've read through many other genres. Even though books are my biggest influence, they are not my only influence. Teachers throughout the years have helped me improve my writing skills in many different ways. Some of my teachers were really nice and helpful but others might have been a bit on the unhelpful side. Either way they all had an influence on my writing. A lot of my early teachers focused more on my spelling and grammar but my later teachers focused more on my style and layout.
