Language and Literacy Development The acquirement of language and literacy abilities is social; it takes place for the reason that children desire to communicate and interact with others. Diversities in children's domestic language and background can influence literacy development. Literacy experiences in the classroom should support and welcome these diversities (“Language, Literacy, and Communication,”2016).

But Excuse Me That Is My Book, is a children’s book by Lauren Child for ages preschool to third grade. Lauren Child has written a series of books involving siblings, Charlie and Lola. In this story, Lola has become fanatic with the book Beetles, Bugs, and Butterflies. It is the only book she wishes to

The teacher can invite students to anticipate the storyline, then read the story to the students, stopping at significant points to ask for predictions of the story. Another method would be to ask students to restate the story from examining the pictures. Covering word parts with sticky notes and asking the children to predict what word is under the sticky note can also help students with language deficiencies (Tankersley, 2016).

Dramatic play is a type of play where children receive and appoint roles, and then play-act them out. Dramatic play enriches child development in four main areas; language, social/emotional, cognitive, and physical (Cecchini, 2008).
After reading But Excuse Me That is My Book, the dramatic play area could be turned into a library and puppets could be used to represent Charlie and Lola. The children could then recreate the story or create a new one.
Dramatic play has the most penetrating impact on language and literacy development.
