    1) “So it’s hammering down rain today, and I show up to school early (lke I always have- geek!) and I take the test. It’s such a hard test! I can’t get through even a tenth of it! I know so much Italian, I know dozens of words in Italian, but they don’t ask me anything that I know. Then there’s an oral exam, which is even worse. There’s this skinny Italian teacher interviewing me and speaking way too fast, in my opinion, and I should be doing so much better than this but I’m nervous and making mistakes with stuff I already know (like, why did I say Vado a scuola instead of Sono andata a scuola? I know that!) – Page 43…

There are many characteristics that make a successful student. I believe being responsible and accountable are my important qualities. These qualities have proven to be my strengths throughout my professional and personal life. I have held various positions in my nursing career where I have been solely responsible for meeting deadlines and producing meeting agendas. Through this, I have had to learn to be accountable and responsible for my own actions. I have learned that I set my own destiny with succeeding. Learning from my mistakes and knowing what improvements I need to make for the future keeps me striving to maintain being responsible and accountable. As a nurse I feel we all have a sense of responsibility and accountability. We have had to be proactive and responsible for patients we have cared for. Continuing to hold myself to these standards and being discipline will help me set my goals to be a successful student.…

As far back as I can remember Thanksgiving was one of my favorites, not for the fall decorations, or the plethora of Football games, but for the food. Ah, the food, when I was a little girl, I used to be awakened by the smell of the savory butter that was melting atop the stove, as I heard the sweet onions being chopped, I knew it was starting; the beginning of the Thanksgiving feast. As I got up and wiped the sleep dust from my eyes, I anxiously ran into the kitchen shouting “Nana, can I help, please Nana?” As my grandmother looked into my sweet brown eyes and replied, “Grab a stool my sweet child, and I’ll get you an apron.” My heartbeat was so loud from the excitement that I thought the neighbors could hear. I raced to the table, grabbed the stool and was anxiously awaiting my assignment. “Julie”, my grandmother stated, “How would you like to help me make the stuffing?” I gasped at the thought to be a part of her infamous stuffing of the delicious bird. “Really Nana, oh my”, I replied with such excitement that I almost fell off the stool. And here it starts, this magical moment, when my grandmother handed me the greenest stalks of celery my eyes ever encountered along with a sharp little paring knife and said “Julie, please be careful as I do not want any fingertips in the stuffing this year.” I looked at her, my eyes full of tears with the excitement of being an integral piece of the compellation and said, “I promise Nana.” As I started to chop the celery into what my grandmother told me were to be “paper-thin” slices I drifted away for a moment, thinking about what it would be like to be a grown-up, having my own Thanksgiving feast.…

Waking up, I feel the burning sensation of what feels like fine needles pricking at my eyeballs. I blink them a couple more times before hitting the snooze button on my loud horn shrieking alarm clock. As I lay my head back down to get just ten more minutes, a fuzzy feeling tickles my stomach. The excitement of me going home today to see my family races through my head, along with that, the slight twinge of a headache from the lack of sleep counteracts that feeling. I’m tired from packing at the last minute. My bed feels so warm and welcoming. It doesn’t want to let me go. Evident of the three layers of heavy blankets that lie on my body and entrap me, hesitant to let me go. The horn sounds again. It’s time to get up, no hesitating this time. I force the arms of sleep off of me and feel the cool early morning air whiff across my skin. Ugh, I wish I could get just two more hours of shut eye and I would be good, but it’s that time and I sit up. Eyes still shut sitting in my bed, I think about seeing my family and I get a burst of energy. It’s been two long years since the last time I’ve seen them. I’m going home!…

Hearts were racing, twelve to be exact, lungs were being constricted tighter and tighter with every second that went by, joints were being pushed to their limits as their limbs stretched the farthest they could reach, and yet these twelve people were still able to ignore their injuries. All they revealed was happiness. There was no pain to be seen. No acknowledgement of misery because they all knew they only had those two minutes and thirty seconds to give it their all. Any sense of nervousness had to be crushed before it even started, there was no room for that. These girls were at competition and not just any competition, this was Nationals. Only the best of the best are able to attain this monumental point. When the first drop of sweat trickled down these girls faces in april, during tryouts, they experienced the beginning of what was to come for the next eleven months.…
