Many perceive The Lion King, Disney's most successful movie to date, as Disney's only original movie; the only movie not previously a fairy tale from one country or another. This, however, is not the case. While The Lion King seems not to be biased on a fairy tale, it is in fact strongly based on the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Disney writers cleverly conceal the basic character archetypes and simplified storyline in a children's tale of cute lions in Africa. To the seasoned reader, however, Hamlet comes screaming out of the screenplay as obviously as Hamlet performed onstage. The characters in The Lion King closely parallel Hamlet. Simba, the main character in The Lion King, embodies Hamlet, He is the son of the King and rightful heir to the throne. The King of the Pridelands, Mufasa, parallels Hamlet Senior, who is killed by the uncle figure. In The Lion King, the uncle is Scar, and in Hamlet, the uncle figure is Claudius. Laertes, the henchman and right-hand man of Claudius, becomes, in the movie, the Hyenas, Bansai, Shenzi, and Ed. The Hyenas collectively act as hero-worshippers to Scar, loyal subjects, and fellow doers-in-evil. They support Scar completely, just as Laertes supports Claudius. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the comic reliefs of Hamlet, and in The Lion King, this role is fulfilled by Timon and Pumbaa, who are a meercat and warthog, respectively. Both sets compliment each other, complete each other's sentences, act as caretakers to Hamlet/Simba, and are comical to the point of being farcical. The role of Horatio, Hamlet's right-hand man, is fulfilled in The Lion King by Nala. Nala concentrates on the aspect that Simba is the rightful King and that it is his responsibility to ascend to the throne. She is his best friend and someone whom he trusts. Just as Horatio loyally follows Hamlet, Nala is completely loyal to Simba. Not only are there ties of friendship, but there is also an element of respect and reverence

Hamlet vs. The Lion King
Major themes in literature and art reappear throughout history. In most cases, the interpretation reflects the current social norms of the time. This can be seen through analysis of the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, which reflects the Elizabethan time period, and the movie The Lion King by Walt Disney, an animated modern version of Hamlet, which mirrors the current era. Each piece of literature is formatted around the same plot. In general, an uncle….

Hamlet vs. Lion king
Some may say that Disney’s the Lion King is a children’s version of Shakespear’s Hamlet. There are many similarities and differences. In the very opening scene of the Lion King Mufasa, the king of the pridelands confronts his brother Scar. This is similar to Hamlet, shortly after Hamlet visits his mother and kills Polonius, there is a meeting between him and Claudius. Both of the kings visit their sons and give them advice that sets them into action. Mufasa appears….
rely on them and they rely on us. The bond that forms from that is unbreakable. Hamlet and the lion king both focus on why you could betray family and what happens when you do. Even though the lion king is Disney's interpretation of Shakespeare's Hamlet there are some key differences in the plot. Such as the ending's, the lion king's ending is hopeful and shows that there is a brighter future ahead for pride rock. Hamlets ending is a lot darker and more disturbing and sees the end of a….

The Lion King and Hamlet
The Lion King was, and still is, one of Disney’s greatest movies ever made. First released in 1994 it was an instant hit. What many people don’t know though is that it was based off another story written a long time before it. This story is Shakespeare’s Hamlet. As I compare the two stories you will notice many similarities between them.
One of the first similarities I noticed between The Lion King and Hamlet was the overall topic of them. They….
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, had an inner conflict. The main character, Hamlet, struggled with the emotions involving his father's murder. A modern day version of Hamlet was made a couple of years ago. This movie is called "The Lion King". "The Lion King" is a cartoon movie expressing a similar plot to the story of Hamlet. In both stories, the main character has one goal. The ultimate goal is to seek revenge on their father's murderer.
In the play "Hamlet", Hamlet finds out about the….

Hamlet: Prince of Denmark and The Lion King
Hamlet: Prince of Denmark tells the story of a young prince who wishes to avenge the death of his father, who is killed by his own brother. Four hundred years later, Walt Disney produced a movie called The Lion King (TLK) with almost the exact same storyline. Many can argue that Hamlet and TLK are complete parallels of each, but it can be suggested that although they share similarities through….
Roar of the King
Horatio says, “Hail to your lordship” (1.2.163). Comparing William Shakespeare’s Hamlet to Walt Disney’s The Lion King actually can be very easy. In this essay I am going to be comparing Horatio from the play Hamlet to Nala, Timon and pumbaa, and Rafiki from the movie The Lion King
Between the play Hamlet and the movie The Lion King I found that Horatio and Nala have a lot in common. In the play Hamlet, Horatio is a character that is close friends with Hamlet; he is a….
Hamlet and Lion King
Hamlet and the movie Lion King have many similarities. They are composed of the same storyline and have many of the same symbolisms. They both are about a royal family and the betrayal of the King's death by their brother. It also holds in common the son and how he seeks revenge upon his father’s death. In comparing Hamlet and Lion King there are many differences too. One big difference is the son does not die in Lion King. Hamlet and the Lion King are great tragedies that forever….
