Limousine and Prom
Prom Night

The ringing of my alarm clock woke me up; I reached for it to make it stop. Still in my bed, I began to stretch a bit. I barely slept the night before, I was to excite for prom. It was already late Thursday morning, the sun was gleaming through my windows and I knew I had a lot to get done. My mom entered my room “It’s prom day!” she squealed. She seemed more excited about my prom than I was. “C’mon get up, you need to get your hair, nails and makeup done!” I got out of bed and began to start my day. While taking a shower, hot water beating against my skin, I planned out my day. Everything seemed perfect, just the way I wanted it to be.
Stepping out of my house, I felt the humidity smack me in my face; this wasn’t a good sign at all. I quickly grabbed my phone to check the weather. Eighty-five degrees? I knew there wasn’t anything I could have done to change the weather, I just had to cross my fingers and hoped that my hair wasn’t going to become frizzy My day started out with getting my nails done, then my hair, then my makeup. Being the impatient person that I am, I couldn’t help becoming anxious, I couldn’t wait to get all these things done with. Even though, I did enjoy the feeling of getting pampered.
During my preparation for prom, I was so nervous because I didn’t know what to do. The smell of hairspray, nail polish and makeup filled the atmosphere. My hands were shaking and sweating, my heart was beating so fast, and it was like I was running in an Olympics. Why was I so nervous? Oh yeah, I remember prom was two hours away! I decided to text my date to get my mind off my nervous tendencies. My date was my boyfriend. For him, it was his second prom. He had graduated a year before me so all the excitement for him was already long gone. He reassured me that this night was going to be everything I expected it to be. While slipping into my long, ivory, rhinestone dress. I took a look in the mirror, put my earrings on and smile. I was

It was Tuesday, March first, 2011, my mother woke me up so I can start getting ready for school. I rose with eager anticipation, just four more days until my thirteenth birthday and I just couldn’t wait. I brushed my teeth and hurried down to eat the complimentary breakfast offered to us by the hotel we were staying at. You see we had been staying at a hotel for the past five months because the home we had been renting was foreclosed on so the utility companies turned off the power and the electricity. We had to get down at just the right time so that there was a small crowd but a lot of food so that we can take food back to the room to save for dinner. After breakfast, we…

Trying to go to school the next day. Standing in the shower thinking maybe if I dont get out I wouldn't have to start my day and move on with it all. But as the water turns to a shivering cold I realize it’s all too real. Pushing through the first five periods of the day, the last three seemed as too much. Feeling as if I will never be able to be happy again. All these gloomy days crafted me into who I am today. This whole experience making me grow up just a little bit faster, and a little more mature and understanding seeming as I already live the life as an adult, but only being a…

Today is perhaps one of the most important days of my life. It is the day I take my placement exam that determines which major you will be put into at the higher learning institution. Shakily I finish getting dressed for the day, I am adorned in a pair of navy pants and a grey button up with the number 84 on the cuff. Each year the society gives a number to every child born. I was the 84th child of the year so that is the number I was assigned, many of my other classmates have number ranging from 20 to over 200. I slip out of my room and jog to the end of my hall barely catching the last lift to the 97th floor where the test is administered. Not everyone gets invited to secondary school, for 75% of the world primary is the end, they didn’t pass, and would be taught trade jobs with little opportunity for advancement. Due to this pressure of the test looms over me and the memory of leaving my mother and family take over my mind almost daily.…

When I turned fourteen, I had a long talk with my parents about my big day only being a year away and how we needed to start with all of the preparations. The first thing I look for was my dress. In my vision, it was the most beautiful, shiny, and spongy dress. I wanted to be a princess for a day. One day after school my older sister, Carolina, had a magazine with prom dresses in it. Since she was a senior, she was on the looking for a dress too. As we saw the magazine, we found a lot of pretty dresses and told my mom to take us shopping, so that Carolina could try some on. As we arrived to the store "Glitz and Glamour", we found out they sold quinceañera dresses as well. My mom asked the employee to bring us some quinceañera dress magazines, while Caro and I watched the magazines for prom dresses. Suddenly, I stumbled upon a beautiful, green, shiny dress. It was perfect. As soon as I saw it, I said, "Mom, I want this dress for my quinceañera." We told the lady that I wanted the dress and she explained that it was available in pink and green. Since I had fallen in love with the color, I told my mom I wanted it in green, but since the tradition is pink, it was obvious that my mom was going to say no. I disagreed with my mom and ordered it green. The lady told us that my dress would arrive in four days. I was…

Opening my eyes, I was greeted by the bright, shiny sun peeking through the curtains. Getting up I noticed my calendar overfilled with Post-it notes, but there was a bright tomato, red color one, it was something important written as, “SAT Today”. My brain shifted into gears, I quickly sprang out of bed and dashed to my trusty backpack, rambling through past-due…

It started out as like any other Saturday. I woke up and drew back my Star Wars blanket to expose my feet to the cool air of my still dark room. My feet swung over the side of the bed to meet the ice rink which acted as my bedroom floor. Sure the floor was always cold, but it was better than any alarm clock when you needed to wake up. My feet continued their groggy journey to the bathroom where my daily ritual of bathing, brushing, and combing would soon begin. Halfway through brushing my teeth, I realized this may have started as an ordinary Saturday, but it definitely was not going to end that way. This was the day I was going to going to try out for little league baseball.…

Prom this year is in the ballroom of The Great Ballroom Dance Studio. My date for my prom is my girlfriend. Her dress color is blue, green, and teal, with silver shoes and silver nails. Since she won’t let me see the dress, she is going with me to pick out the tuxedo. I am wearing a black tux, with a silver vest, bow tie, black shirt, and silver pocket square. I got her a three rose flower bracelet that matched perfectly with her dress. We ate at Dirty Dick’s Crab House. Instead of taking my old, beat up, 1987 Honda Civic, I took my uncle’s brand new BMW. It was black, with dark tinted windows, black rims, and an amazing aftermarket stereo.…

“Clide, come on. You’re going to be late! GET UP!” screeched the woman of the house, my mom Sandra. I’m taking my time as usual, dragging my feet off my cosy bed as my numb arms reach for my drawer. Our family isn’t very rich, so I don’t have a wide range of clothes to pick from. I wear a black top and jeans, the usual. My mom says that black makes my eyes standout since they’re ever green. I quickly brush my hair even though they always look messy regardless of the amount of times I take showers. “Clide, don’t make me come up there!” “It’s the first day! You must make a good impression!” “Jeez Mom, I’m coming!” I shout as I slide down the stair handles. Although mom always told me to not do it, I have a habit of not listening to her. I quickly…

It was a simple beginning to a beautiful day in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The dry morning air brought a wealth of warmth to my tired skin. "Today is a day of opportunity," I thought. I would hopefully be entering the work force after a long battle with unemployment. I was excited because my days were filled with nothing but boredom and my mind was occupied with nothing but despair. Hopefully, today would be the day that I left my past behind me.…

Since she didn't have a date yet, she gladly accepted the invitation. I wanted to give Richard, my date and escort, a dazzling first impression by meeting him at the door in my beautiful Southern belle dress. When Richard arrived, he was met at the door by my father instead of me, and he found my mother lying at my feet on the living room floor, sewing the hem in my formal. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, my mother announced that she was finished and that we were late for the prom.…

Prom night was supposed to be everything to be I had dreamed of. I had a beautiful date, whom I was very fond of, and every dance seemed to bring our spirits together. It was as if I could finally feel this love that every artist, songwriter, and friend describes. As we finished dancing, she took a step away and whispered to her sister nearby. They told my friend Alec and I that they needed to use the ladies’ room. As they walked away, I uttered three words of disaster, “I love her.” As the end of my lips finished the last word, I felt a drop of sweat fall onto my pant leg. My head ached and I started to hyperventilate. Everyone else seemed to be fine, so normal. I grabbed my friend’s shoulder as I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest. In a muttered manner I said, “I need some fresh air.” As I scraped my feet along the door, I stepped to the outside of the door with the hope that some cold air would aid, what seemed to be, a heart attack.…

At this point I began doubting myself. I was hopeless. I was doing poorly in school, missing assignments, and I never had enough time to study. I began to think, is it all worth it? During that moment, I wanted to prove everyone wrong (it was also too late to quit). I stiffened up my shoulders, put my head up and changed my thought process. I didn’t care what people thought anymore because I knew that my prom will get them talking for years. I began to promote prom, and I finally announced the theme. I began to notice people talking about how excited they are…

All the ladies were expected to wear long gowns this time and to be honest; I had no idea what I really wanted to wear. Hahahah  I immediately told my mom about it and by then we decided my dress would be designed and made by my very own uncle, Harley Ruedas. Once he was done sketching my gown, I knew I HAD to wear it. I actually had plans on telling my prom partner and buddy, Kirk Sing about it so that we will have matching colours, but it was too late by then cause he had his planned out as well already. Anyways, the whole prom-preparation week was actually hectic for me and my group of friends since we were assigned with the batch retrospection—I know right? It was a hard task to do especially because we had really big plans about it. Doing interviews for the seniors and re-enactments was not easy. AT ALL. We even had to balance our time with cotillion rehearsals, choir practices, editing the promposal videos and even bits of academics! But miraculously, we were able to go through THAT and were ready for the night we were all preparing for. …
