Limestone Rotary Kilns with Preheaters
Lime preheater
A lime preheater is a piece of equipment used in conjunction with a limestone rotary kiln that allows the length of the kiln to be reduced while increasing the fuel efficiency of the system. The connection of the preheater to the kiln is accomplished with a transfer chute, which is both a duct to convey hot gasses from the kiln to the preheater and a chute to convey stone from the preheater to the kiln feed end.

Metso preheaters are available in rectangular or polygon designs, depending on the capacity of the system desired. The preheater is composed of a refractory lined floor, roof and side walls with hydraulically powered discharge rams. Limestone of ambient temperature enters the top of the preheater by gravity flow through a series of stone chutes and builds up on the floor until a vertical bed of stone is established. Hot gasses from the kiln are drawn up through the bed of stone by the systems induced draft fan, giving an efficient transfer of heat from the gasses to the stone. Hydraulic cylinders push the rams which slide the lower part of the stone bed across the floor to the preheater discharge opening where the stone falls through the transfer chute and into the kiln.

Main benefits of preheaters are:
1.High recovery of heat from kiln exit gas.
2.Lower SOx and NOx emissions.
3.Operates on a variety of fuels.
4.Reduced fuel consumption.
5.Wide range of stone feed sizes.
6.High production capacities.
7.Reduced kiln length.
8.Reduced capital equipment cost.
9.Control system for entire facility.
10.Capable of installing anywhere in the world.
11.In house engineering for custom fit applications.

These typically consist of a pair of shafts, operated alternately. Fitst, when shaft A is the "primary" and B the "secondary" shaft, the combustion air is added from the top of shaft A, while fuel somewhat below via burner lances. The flame is top-button. The hot gases pass downward, cross to shaft B via the so called "channel" and pass upward to exhaust of shaft B. At same time in both shafts cooling air is added from the button to cool the lime and to make exhaust of gases via the bottom of the kiln impossible via maintaining always a positive pressure. The combustion…

Rotary kiln is the main form of wear of gear damage after severe not ensure normal meshing and change, even if the tooth tip sharpening, are hongxingly not broken teeth phenomenon. In order to reduce wear, in the repair of kiln ring gear made the flame surface quenching, quenching and tempering after. After years of use, wear very slight. Along with the high grade iron ore mining continuously to begin to dry up, and the ore prices continue to rise, low grade iron ore and compound symbiosis ore become of great exploitation value, and become the development direction of the future. The experiment USES iron ore mineral composition complex, basically have siderite, limonite, diamond magnetite, all kinds of mineral close symbiosis, hybrid distribution, very fine disseminated extent, the comprehensive quality is low, the ore sorting is very difficult, so use rotary kiln has certain advantages.…

Moreover, it is also the best kiln type in limestone industries for its strong adaptability to raw and fuel materials, convenient maintenance and low consumption benefits. As the lime rotary kiln adopts new modern technology of burner, it can make full use of cheap energy; especially utilize the most draining inflammable gas as treasure of part energy, which is harmful to the environment. Thus, it not only protects environment, but also is in line with the public policy documents on response to energy conservation, emission reduction and low carbon.…

An experimental study of the calcination of limestone has been carried out in a highly instrumented pilot-scale rotary kiln. Local gas, solids, and wall temperatures and pct calcination have been measured under a range of operating conditions to determine the influence of limestone type, feed rate, rotational speed, inclination angle, and particle size on calcination and heat flow in the kiln. Thus, it has been found that the local calcination is dependent primarily on the solids temperature and hence on heat transfer. Of the variables studied, the limestone feed rate has the strongest effect on the temperature and calcination fields, whereas inclination angle and rotational speed are relatively less important. The different limestones studied exhibited significant differences in heat-absorption capacity and calcination temperature which may be related to their radiative properties. Increasing particle size over a range of 0.75 to 3.5 mm resulted in an increase in both heat transfer to the bed and calcination.…
