Limbo Hunter: A Short Story
In what seems like an eternity in limbo Hunter comes out of it, still unable to move because of the pain. He is still in the trunk he knows that much and the car is moving. Being the soldier that he is he gives himself the once over as best he can. His leg throbs and aches, checking it there is a field dressing on it the kinda medic would use in combat he can feel it. There is no blood, the bleeding has stopped evidently the branch hadn’t hit an artery or he would be dead already. The car begins to slow finally stopping. Hunter can hear voices and through the cracks of the trunk can see strobing police lights he wants to call but can’t, his voice is not there.

It’s Sam out there and Armstrong, help! He whispers but it’s in vain nobody can

The frightfulness of the nightmare has boosted his adrenaline sky high and given him tremendous strength. He continues to scream at the horrific visions in his head. Breathing heavy he starts to calm down the dream is starting to fade away. Thinking someone will come in any minute he waits anxiously but no one does. The place is deathly quiet he thinks he hears some birds chirping his eyesight is clear now as he looks around the room. He had perceived he was in some sort of medical facility then he remembers the smell and his first impression of a cabin. Yes that is what he’s in wooden logs or facsimile thereof make up the walls of the structure he looks down at the floor simple wooden planking. He picks up and shines and see that he is surrounded by what seems to be the records of the hospital. When he was searching for an exit, he decided to search the contents of the cabinets, the first files seemed to be nothing but maintenance reports, as he opened a file to read, a rotted manilla folder fell out, when he opened up the folder to look at its contents he was shocked to find out that the government was conducting genetic experiments on former patients of the hospital, trying to make the ultimate soldier, but as he read further on it became clear that this failed, but it seemed the subject only referred as “88799” seemed to show higher intelligence than the other subjects, the rest of the notes were too faded with age to be legible, as he was contemplating on what his move will be, he was frozen stiff at the sound of an unknown door creaking…

Abelard rushed in with a wooden bat, with the most frightened look on his face. He told us to get in the corner behind a small closet door, but by the time my little sister had made it, it was too late. The dreaded German soldiers had already barged into the room. They grabbed Abelard, and he had a look of defeat on his face. They shot both my mother and father. I fell, my heart feeling like an elephant was on top of it. One of the soldiers came and hit me with his gun. I remember seeing Abelard jump out of the soldiers grip trying to block them from shooting my little sister, so they shot him.…

Robert G. Gonzales, an assistant professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education and author of “Lives in Limbo: Undocumented and Coming of Age in America.”(2016) argues that the United States needs immigration reform to bring immigrants and their families out of the shadows, to recognize their deep community connections and economic contributions, and to build a strong American society. As Gonzales interviews students on how DACA (Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals) helped them they believe that “DACA beneficiaries helped obtained new jobs and paid internships and had increased their earnings.” (3) As said in the article DACA has given insurance, and letting the DACAmented being able to get a Driver’s License. The gas consumed his lungs growing tighter each second. Not even I could imagine the pain that was growing in him. The whites of his eyes glowed amongst the blood that was starting to evolve around the creases of his lips. His hand opening and closing, his fingertips searching for something to clasp onto to stop the pain… they fall upon the hem of my pants with a grip of an eagle. As he held my pants for his refuge the words he mumbled will never leave me. ‘Tel…tell them…tell them I said bye’. As his body became limp on my feet the words and noise of the other men became apparent again.…

    Catch 22 Hospital Analysis

    • 1326 Words

When the soldier in white arrives at the hospital, he was “encased from head to toe in plaster and gauze” and “sewn into the bandages over the insides of both elbows were zippered lips through which he was fed clear fluid from a clear jar” (Heller 10). Heller’s vast use of imagery exhibits the cruelty that the war puts on soldiers. Furthermore, here, Heller privileges the idea that the hospital is not an escape from war, but is an even further look into the war. Patients, like Yossarian, are permanently bombarded with the casualties of war every time a new patient comes in. Therefore, there is no way to avoid the war, even in a place that is associated with care and safety. When a new soldier in white comes into the hospital later in the novel, Heller uses imagery again by stating that the soldier in white was “encased from head to toe in plaster and gauze with both strange, rigid legs elevated from the hips and both strange arms strung up perpendicularly...” (Heller 167). By using imagery again to describe a soldier in white, Heller emphasizes that the dangers of war are endlessly present and that there is truly no such thing as a “safe-haven” when it comes to the war. Furthermore, by repeating some of the same words like “plaster” and “gauze”, Heller is able to show that the dangers of war affect nearly everyone and that…

My body is under attack. An attack I am all too familiar with. It feels as if an explosive has detonated in my head. I am disoriented and struggling to get my thoughts together. The pain is intense and crippling. I tilt my head back, and rest it on the headboard hoping for relief. I shut my eyes, and gently place my hands on my temples. As I begin to massage my temples, the invader silently enters into my thoughts and begins to taunt me, “You deserve everything you get, he whispers”. “It doesn’t matter how you try to escape me, I will be here. I will be here today, tomorrow, and for the remainder of your life”. Trying to ignore the whisper, I grab two Advil off the nearby nightstand, and wash them down with a sip of coffee. I squeeze my eyes tight, and begin to feel tears burn the back of my eyelids. My thoughts begin to become tainted with feelings of despair, hopelessness and sorrow. I open my eyes, and standing within arm’s reach of me, is my ten year old son. I choke back my tears, force myself to smile and reach out for a hug.…

Dramatic Intro Flashing lights were blinding my vision, and emergency sirens were screaming in my ears, both making it hard to process the situation I was in. I looked around praying to find something familiar that could possibly give me guess as to what was happening, but was interrupted by sharp creaking of a metal door, which robbed my attention. I looked towards the direction the sound was coming from and was shocked to see the face of a man, I tried moving but couldn’t. Confused I asked him “what the he** is going on?”, but he didn't answer my question, instead he yelled to, what i'm assuming was another person, “he’s alive, but the door has him pinned”. Sadly he was right, because when I looked to my left I saw a metal rod lodged into…

The words finally come to mind, telling the man in blue that the shooter ran toward the alley on your right. The police tend to the lifeless body, that has ended up in your now bloody arms. I could feel my heart rate increasing slowly and at my attention it began to beat more fiercely. I could feel it pulsing through my body as though someone was sending thick beads of mercury through my veins. I was sent back to the moment of birth and was once again trying to learn how to breathe. Something was eating me from the inside out and when I could finally put my finger on it, I realized it was fear. The kind of fear that followed you up the stairs as a kid, or maybe still now, convinced that something of the imagination was lurking only a few steps behind you. Or when you're laying in bed, and every creak of the house or crackle of branches in the wind, becomes a stranger invading your home. These are all fears created in…

All I could hear was yelling and banging outside. Then all of a sudden “Smash,” the door broke. I could just see my father saying “He’s not here he went for a walk,” the Tabilians just ignored my father and “smash,” they were breaking the shop. In a glimpse of an eye my father pulled one of the soldiers from breaking my mum’s portrait. But the soldier just punched dads face and then open firing into him, filling him lead. I couldn’t move, I watched as he took his last breath, he was dead. The soldiers must have given up the search because they just moved onto the next house. I slowly walked over to him. I cried, what was my mum going to think? I ran home to tell her the bad news, she was shocked and not believing me she ran to the shop. When I reached the shop, she had already had tears in her eyes. She angrily said “Pack your bags we’re, going to Australia to live,” I thought this sounded like a holiday except you stay there permanently so I rushed to get packed, bringing all my valuables.…
