When Rosaura, Tita’s sister, isn’t able to breastfeed her child Tita is tasked with finding a way to feed the child. Tita tries many different foods but the child rejects everyone of them. This puts Tita in a really agonizing position because the child wants breast milk but Tita has none to give since she was not married. Yet as the baby kept crying Tita just couldn’t bear to hear him cry any more so she offered her breast to the baby,”Immediately Tita let him take her breast until his hunger was completely satisfied and he was sleeping peacefully, like a saint”(pg 76). Tita couldn’t stand the pain of baby so she gave him her “magical” milk to soothe him. This shows how Tita acts motherly by nurturing the child and supporting it in order to make the baby happy. Furthermore this shows how the way she cares for children is to support them and make sure they are happy. An example of how Tita’s way of caring is seen by other people is on pg 76 when it says,”At this moment Tita looked like Ceres herself, goddess of plenty.” This says how Tita appears to be a goddess in the eyes of Pedro, Tita’s true love. Tita appearing to be a goddess shows that she is extremely affectionate and caring to the child. Also Tita being compared to a goddess shows that her love radiates and protects everyone that she cares about in an overlooking and supernatural way that is reassuring and safe. Furthermore, the way that Tita acts as a mother not only benefits those she is caring for but also those that surround her. As a result this shows how Tita breastfeeding symbolizes how she acts as a…

This is a sad song, it reflects sadness and heartache. The theme is a guy who is leaving her (the narrator). But he’s leaving her not because he wants to, but because he has a military mission. He has enlisted to be a military soldier as volunteer service. He doesn’t want to go but he needs to. He is in such a pain for leaving her that he doesn’t even have the courage to say goodbye “Face the rhythm of the night to say goodbye”. Also, she says that she writes this song to him so when he’s in pain he’ll have a piece of her to embrace. The symbol is the stars. The stars in the song represent light. Stars represent her hope and faith that he’ll be done soon and he’ll be back home safe. The motif is the mission. All of the song surrounds the fact that he’s leaving for a mission. This fact emphasizes the feelings and can also apply in other situations. I mean, life is a mission and sometimes you’ll say goodbye even though you want to stay, but sometimes that isn’t possible; you just remain faithful to see them again.…

The first stanza sets the basic tone for the rest of the poem; the speaker is listening to a woman singing and playing piano and it takes him on a journey through his childhood. The music reminds him of sitting under the piano as his mother played happily. In the second stanza, the speaker’s inner conflict becomes apparent; he does not want to live in the past, he does not want to give into his emotions and grieve for his lost innocence. However, in the end of the second stanza, he begins allowing himself to experience the gloomy nostalgia. In the concluding verse, he abandons his “manhood”, gives in completely, and ends up weeping in longing for the innocence and happiness years long gone.…

Ruth begins her narrative with “I’m dead” because technically, she is dead to her family. They do not care for her anymore now that she has “betrayed” them. Later in the book, Ruth recalls, “When Jews say kaddish, they’re not responsible for you anymore. You’re dead to them. Saying kaddish and sitting shiva, that absolves them of any responsibility for you.” Ruth basically wants to let her readers know at the beginning that her family is not important to her and not part of her anymore. This helps us to better understand her point of view during the story.…
