LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE
Final Paper: Women & Relationships Esquivel showed love in a whole other aspect from life in the movie and novel “Like Water for Chocolate”. This movie and novel is about monthly installments with recipes, romances, and home remedies. Love was very powerful and changed everybody’s life, it kept some people around, made some people leave and it even made some people die. Love is something that can take over someone’s mind, soul and body. When two people are in love no one and nothing can get in the way of those two individuals from being together. When you’re in love you’ll do just about anything to keep yourself and the one you love happy. For example in “Like Water for Chocolate” Pedro was so in love with Tita that’s when it came time to ask for her hand in marriage the mother denied it only because she was the youngest and their tradition was that she had to take care of the mother until she dies. So he ends up marrying her older sister Rosaura even though he isn’t in love with her just so he can stay close to Tita until further notice. Esquivel showed in this novel/movie that true love does exist, and no matter how far apart you have to be from your other half or if you have to disobey your parent or break your tradition to get the one you love and be happy then that is what your going to have to do.
Love in this novel and movie took a huge part in Pedro and Tita’s life, Rosaura and Pedro’s life, and Mama Elena’s life, and it even took place with Tita and her love for cooking in the kitchen. Tita’s love for food wasn’t just no ordinary love for food, because everyone in life loves food but it was a love that was so intense that the food that she would cook not only affected her but even the people that surrounded her. There were certain types of food that she would cook that would make people sad, happy, laugh, cry and have a sexual tension or make them feel very lustful.
