Life Is What You Make It

Can Life Really Be What YOU Make It? A lot of people say they would like to change their life or retract their steps, but me I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. Brooke Smith, my first child, that I went through 34 hours of labor with is a reminder of all that I have went through, what I have done to get to where I am today and what I will do for her to have the best life I can possibly give her being her mother. Certain things in my life were trying and devastating to where I wanted things to be different, but God makes no mistakes. Day to day I learned something new that made me wiser in result of growing up from a child to the woman I am today regardless of the lies I have told, criminal acts that I have committed, being sneaky and just making dumb mistakes. Everyone says how do you do it, Lisa, “how do you function with all that you have to deal with and do for other people?,” “Fortunately, I am able to do it and obviously God has a purpose for me and will not put more on me than he knows that I can,” how I respond to that question that is asked by others frequently. Graciously I am still standing strong and haven’t hit the ground to where I didn’t rise back up. Hate and love played a major part in the things that have transpired in my life to determine my ending result in different situations. I know for a fact at times the option I chose wasn’t always a benefactor or a positive route to take. My choices have gotten me in a lot of trouble at times. Nary do I regret the choices because as I said before those choices made me wiser. Obviously, your mistakes are not always your downfall in life they can be a stepping stone. People usually let their mistakes get the best of them. Quickly people think they want to be someone else or have someone else’s not realizing their own purpose because we all are her for different reasons. Rarely do I love hard with anything or anyone due to being hurt by many people that I loved and were loved ones.

Time was running out. Stakes were high. It was supposed to be a particular day for everyone including Miranda, a typical teenage girl. As usual, she went to school, then went home with the knowledge that an asteroid was to hit the moon later in the day. At first, nothing seemed to have happen until a noise almost like a sonic boom erupted from the sky. The moon appeared closer than ever in an eerie, unnatural sort of way. Almost suddenly, Earth was hit with tornadoes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. Out of the many people who witnessed this event, Miranda stayed strong and fought her way through the epidemic, even through the roughest of times.…

We all want something out of life and most of us have a plan for our lives and where exactly we want to be in 5, 10, or even 20 years. However, most of the time, those 5,10, and 20 year plans do not work out as we expected. We go through triumphs and tragedies; we grow and learn; and we eventually realize that what we have planned is probably going to change because we have changed. Over the course of my life, I have changed in a variety of ways and have overcame a number of challenges. I’ve made plans for my life and most of them did not work out, but looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.…

What would I do? This is what I kept asking myself as I was reading “Life as We Knew It” by Susan Beth Pfeffer. The book follows Miranda and her family through their day-to-day struggles to survive the aftermath of a life-changing event. Astronomers miscalculate the density an asteroid that hits the moon, and it pushes the moon closer to Earth. The gravitational pull results in natural disasters that happen all over the world, not to mention grocery stores running out of food and gas going well over $10 a gallon. Although there is not a lot of action in the book, it is still compelling to read.…

A good life is defined differently for everyone. Our parents, friends, and the media all comprise a vision that we see as the best way of experiencing our lives. This is different for every person, because nobody follows the exact same path in life, and events influencing someone’s existence are what eventually set the course for one‘s perception of a good, fulfilling, purposeful life. In the cases of some, a good life does not have to be complex. A modest life is often more fulfilling as a busy, complicated lifestyle. Although I don’t necessarily agree that my life would be better if it were suddenly made much simpler, there are people in the world who believe that the best thing one could ask for is simplicity.…

Every time the sun rises, and a new day packed with possibilities and new opportunities and decisions to be made. As humans, we don’t always make the best decisions. Which is a good thing, without the occasional mistake we would just stay as stagnant people, never changing. In this narrative I will be addressing a drastic mistake I made in my life. About eight months ago my father passed away. I made the mistake of choosing not to spend time with him when he tried so hard to see me. This mistake resulted in regret and I have now learned from it and try especially hard to spend time with loved ones. The sad truth is, you are born alone and die alone. Because of that I now appreciate every second I am gifted with the people I love. I will never take anyone for granted ever again. Mistakes aren’t fun, but without them how would we ever learn?…

Glenwood, Glenwood, Glenwood, lol. Man its been a journey for me at Glenwood. Coming to Glenwood was the best decision my mom has made in my life. Before I came to Glenwood I lived in the dangerous part of the south side of Chicago. My family and I lived in a two bedroom apartment. I went to a public school right down the street but never experienced the ability to walk from home to school. My mom always made sure I was escorted or drove up to school when she was away at work. Reason for that was because she feared the danger of me being in the wrong place at the wrong time like many other young people that life was taken away because of somebody else’s stupidity. After a while my mom got fed up with the violence around my house. That’s when my mom decided to send me here to Glenwood.…
