Life as we know it.
On the school bus, there are not many rules. Sit in your seat, do not act crazy, and do not eat or drink. These rules are legitimate. The reasons for them are necessary to keep us safe as we travel to and from. However, there is one rule that makes no sense, NO CELL PHONES. In the building this is a more reasonable rule. They do not want us to have our cell phones because of cheating and the fact that we might not pay attention. The prohibition of them in the building is the best way, seen by teachers and administration to keep bad things from happening. On the bus, this is a different story.
Our bus drivers constantly order us not to use our phones. When a student is ordered not to use their phone and they ask for a reason, the response is always the same. Bus drivers respond, “because” or “the bus garage said so”. This only states why they are telling us not to use our phones, but not the actual reason for the rule. The belief is that the school bus is an extension of the school building. This is not the case; the school is a place to learn that should be free of distractions able for the student to obtain an education. The school bus is just the vehicle that gets us there. There should be different rules for different environments.
Bus drivers think that phones are distractions that keep the students on the bus and the bus driver in harm. Cell phones are not distractions; they are items that keep us occupied and quiet while we ride. What kid would want to jump over the bus seats when they can sit down and play a game on their phone? Some say that the noise from a student’s phone will be distracting, but a student can wear headphones and make sure that others cannot hear their phones. Supporters of the cell phone ban say that if a student is on their phone, they might not notice instructions from their driver or if an event happens. This is simply not the case. Students will notice if there is commotion around them of one of their fellow bus mates will tap

The first day of class began with reading a syllabus. All the students sat quietly as the teacher read aloud what was to be expected. Reading more and more into it, the teacher mentioned that no cell phones were to be used in class…students groaning; typical right? Students had never been allowed to use their cell phones in class, let alone in the school. So why were they so disappointed? Teachers make that rule because cell phones distract students’ learning processes and takes away from good learning.…

There is more than one side to the debate about cell phone availability during school. One claim is that students should be allowed to have their phones on them and use their cell phones during appropriate times. In the article, the authors provide details about how there are numerous reasons why cell phones should be allowed during school. Students should be allowed access to cell phones, because if they are responsible enough to be going off to college in a year or so, they should be responsible enough to have a cell phone on them and use it wisely (George and Cook). Another reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is because otherwise it can create a divide between the students and the teachers. Students are so invested in their phones, so if a teacher…

Bus drivers should not be able to use their cellphones while they are driving. That puts the kids in harms way, and them too. One study says that “13 percent of drivers age 18-20 involved in car wrecks admitted to texting while driving”. Other studies says that “ 77 percent of young adults are very or somewhat confident that they can safely text while driving and 55 percent of young adult drivers claim it’s easy to text while drive”. It’s says that 48 percent of young drivers have seen their parents text while driving”. Then “ 15 percent of young seen their parents texting while driving”. Then “ 48 percent of kids ages 12-17 have been in a car while in a car”.I see it constantly while I'm driving, and almost every time the person texting doesn't notice the light change, starts to swerve into the other lane, or almost hits another car. If the decision to text while driving is too enticing, the phone should be placed out of sight, such as in the glove box. Getting from one place to another in Springfield at most would take 30 minutes. No person should be completely attached to texting that a 30 minute break is unbearable.Another important point is the fact that texting while behind the wheel does not only affect you. It takes two cars to crash, and injuries could happen to someone other than you. On the road, drivers hold the lives of other drivers and passengers around them. There is no way a random stranger deserves to be hurt or die because another driver yearns to check how many likes a picture or tweet gets.In Missouri, texting while driving under 21 is against the law, and it…

Texting in class is a very touchy subject, and can be argued from many different aspects. One of the main things though, is that texting in class would not be disruptive just for the student texting, but also to the students sitting around the student that is doing the texting. In this today’s generation, everywhere around us people of all ages and cultures circle around their cell phones in everything they do. Whether we are walking down the road, in the grocery style, in class, or even much dangerously, in driving, cell phones have grown to be a very vital part of our everyday lives. However, when it comes to cell phones and texting in the classroom, a very controversial answer is given between teachers and students. Students say they don’t see a problem with texting in class, teachers on the other hand, think otherwise. This is where the problem begins; teachers hold a very persuasive argument about why students shouldn’t be allowed to text in class or even use the cell phone at all. Students on the other hand, can also put up a somewhat reasonable argument as well.…

After reviewing Sheyenne's cell phone policy and researching the benefits and drawbacks of cell phones, I urge you to revise the cell phone policy, and allow more cell phone use in the school. Cell phones are permitted in certain parts of the school, but the technology needs to be integrated into the classrooms. With this incorporation of technology in the classroom it can provide more depth in the lesson, and collaboration among students. Some teachers may see the use of cell phones in the classroom as disrespectful. They perceive this as disrespectful, for they took time to prepare the lesson, and the student is not paying attention. In actuality the student is not disturbing others, and if they decide to not pay attention,…

The second reason that students shouldn't be allowed to use cell phones in school for education is for the sake of the teachers, a teacher should not have to fight for the attention of his or her students due to technology. After twenty years of teaching history and ESL for Lowell High School, Miriam Morgenstern is quitting her job for multiple reasons. One of Morgenstern’s reasons for quitting is her students and their cell phones, she explains her frustration, “The texting, tweeting, and snapchatting during class time are ‘an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,’ she said. ‘It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.’” It is unacceptable that students are using their phones while the teacher…
