If people are planning to go to college they have to know what they want to be and how they plan to get there. They need to know which schools appeals to them and how they are going to pay for their education. According to the Darcy Lyness (2008) “before selecting the school they have to start asking question themselves about their preference like what are their strength, which learning environment is best for them etc”. Once they have narrowed down their choices they have to make arrangements to visit. According to the Ralph Keyes (2009) “students should visit when school is in session so they can get a good idea of what life is really like on campus”.
Students have to apply on more than one college if they want to go to college because schools are picking from large pool of applicants. They wants to know how well students are and what makes them stand out from everyone else. So they will look at grade point average, SAT scores, class ranks and extracurricular activities. So it is important for students to dedicate time and effort to all these things and they have to choose a career they are interested to do in their future because according to the Anita Gurian (2001) “75% of students change their majors in the middle or after one year”.

After completing the survey for my economics course it gave me a career field that I should consider joining based off of my answers to the survey. The field I was given was investigative. I agree with choice because I love to solve puzzles and work with things that makes me have to think to figure it out. Also, the investigative field is a good fit for me because the jobs that are involved in this field involve math which is one of my favorite subjects whether it be engineering or computer programming. Plus, with it being investigative I am not limited by the math field because I could also work in the medical field by being a doctor trying to find a malignant tumor. The two career paths I have decided on that stem from this career category would have to be computer hardware engineer or being a biomedical engineer.…

Then I remember a time in my first 2 years of high school. I was oblivious. Confuse about my future. Whether I wanted to do something after high school. I have to admit school wasn't my priority in freshman year. I wouldn't get the best grade, but they weren't the worst either. All I cared about is having friends. Then something hit me. Seeing all these seniors not graduate on time. Seeing many kids struggle financially after high school. I eventually notice that those who go to college succeed more. Especially being a minority it's extremely difficult to succeed…

Kelly starts the article by using former president Barack Obama’s daughter, Malia Obama, as an example of a great student taking a year before college to get herself ready for the next stage of her life. He continues his claim by expressing that while in the past colleges have frowned upon taking a gap year, colleges today are actually suggesting students to take a constructive year off to get themselves mentally and physically ready before attending a university. Colleges believe students who do this come to college more ready to succeed…
