When my grand-uncle died, hundreds of people came to his funeral. Many were former patients; they spoke of how gracious my grand-uncle was. He changed the lives of many people by caring for those who could not afford healthcare. Before I die, I want to better the lives of as many people possible by developing cheap and accessible treatments. HLI’s Student Week provides the chance to utilize theoretical knowledge from scientific articles, AP sciences, and independent studies in practical application. Since the field I am passionate about pursuing is pathology, HLI’s focus on life sciences at a molecular level would be the most beneficial program for me as I would be learning how medical professionals research in a laboratory. From the skills…

Dr.Holt told me I would be interning with Alabama Rivers Alliance, I was astonished, considering that this is a big organization to me I could not believe it. Opportunities like this I thought I would never get. Interning with them and attending the conference in mobile will expand my network, knowledge and gives me a better chance in getting a good job. With Alabama Rivers I expect to do a lot of office work, physical work, and learn policies I have no clue about. I also expect the environment to be friendly and energetic but yet filled with problems to solve. Unfortunately I did not get to experience none of my assumptions because there communication was terrible and was too busy for an…

During my senior year of high school I decided to join the school's newspaper staff. I had no prior experience, but I was quick to volunteer and cover big local events. After a year of writing all genres (sports, opinions, news, features), I received my biggest accomplishment: first place in Sports Writing, in the West Virginia Journalism Competition. Without dedication and determination, I would have never been able to win that award. There were many times the work was difficult, but I realized how important my role was on the newspaper staff and made sure to never let down the staff (any time a member of the staff was missing from class, it made it difficult for the entire…
