There is something about youth that has always encapsulated those grown out of it. The human race puts it on a pedestal after it has been spent, and it becomes a last wish, something to laugh about in past tense. They will laugh and say how teenagers often feel as though they are invincible, that we are wild and insane because we think we cannot be harmed. But it is so much more than just a feeling. In the seconds between laughs and the embers of a glittering bonfire and the bite of a bone-chilling wind, we are invincible. We still may bleed, but it will be golden. We still may break, but it will feel as if we have been born anew. We still may feel the pain of our lives crushing into us, but it will seem like it is ecstasy rushing against us.…
From reading this it made me see that being young does not have to mean that we have to be stupid and throw caution into the wind. I much rather take that road less traveled on to get a better life; it is not always easy but it is a lot better than wanting for death, worse knowing that death is closer than it should…
However, age alone does not exempt one from making bad decisions or behaving in an impulsive manner. The main reason younger people are more commonly seen as being rash is because in general, younger people have not yet developed a strong sense of responsibility that is more commonly matured in older, more experienced people. Nevertheless, circumstances often mean that some young people are grounded in a very strong sense of responsibility, which reflect in their actions, while several older people feel no need for responsibility in their lives, and thus act in an impetuous or reckless…
Many technological advances in the modern era has brought up the question whether or not that the current generation of people under thirty years of age should be deemed as the dumbest generation. The sources given lack the evidence needed to support the claim that those under age thirty are "the dumbest generation." The sources that are in favor of this make very logical examples depicting said claim; however, the author fails to support it using facts and statistics. The sources in which the author tries to disprove the claim utilizes facts and statistics from conducted experiments. This ratifies that the evidence given in these sources can deteriorate the original claim, proving that people under thirty are not the dumbest generation.…
I found the quote in my epigraph to be very accurate; how can one become old and wise if they aren’t first “young and stupid”? Kids, teenagers and young adults tend to go against their parents’ words of wisdom to do what they believe will be fun, change their beliefs in politics and religion, and believe the idea of thinking they know everything, but they really don’t. I know this from experience, and a common example is when asking for permission to go do something stupid because everyone else is doing it, parents often say “If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?”, even though it is tempting to say yes, we answer no because us young people really know that our parents are actually correct. When young people become older and…
“Those who improve with age embrace the power of personal growth and personal achievement and begin to replace youth with wisdom, innocence with understanding, and lack of purpose with self-actualization” (Bennett). Innocence can by defined in many ways. Some believe that it is the lack of corruption, others believe that it is a lack of understanding, and some think it means that a person accused of a crime is not guilty. Everybody starts out innocent, and that innocence is lost with the development of maturity. The quote above was written by Bo Bennett in his book, Year to Success. The quote’s basic meaning is that people mature and become smarter and more…
Ageism is manifested in many ways, some explicit, some implicit, such as the presumption that older persons are undesirable, because of the values embraced by society that youth is better and more flattering, in terms of looks, ideals, freshness, etc. Part of the problem that people who are confronted with ageism face, almost mirror the terms “has-been,” “stale,” and “out of date.”…
Sometimes when it comes to making decisions in life or coming up with ideas aren't as important if a grown person would. I feel as if the accomplishments that youth make in today's society isn't recognize but when something go wrong or bad they are quicker to recognize…
Veterans Day was at first celebrated as Armistice day. There was an Act on May 13th, 1938, that was approved to make November 11th every year an annual holiday called Armistice Day. Armistice Day was the day when they celebrated the ending of World War I. The treaty for the war was signed on the eleventh month, day, and hour. On June 1st, 1954, Armistice Day’s name was changed to Veterans Day. Veterans Day has added meaning to me because I have several relatives that have served in wars.…
What would happen if everything was lost? What if, one day, everything something had and everyone they loved was gone in an instant along with millions of others? Between January 1933 and May 1945, this happened to six million Jews along with five million others, including Poles, Gypsies, Russian prisoners of war, and homosexuals who were killed in Hitler’s attempt to wipe them out known as the Holocaust (Lehnardt, 2016). This is horrific event is one under the title of genocide and is an internationally punishable crime (History.com Staff, 2009). The average age of survivors in 2013 was around 85, with that number probably in the high 80’s now (Rosmarin, 2013). In the 72 years since the Holocaust, many of these…
Why is Remembrance Day so significant? It is significant because it is a day in history where the world mourn the deaths of people in the war. And on this day people show respect by wearing poppies and also taking a 2 minute silence from their busy lives. Remembrance Day is about remembering the many soldiers who were killed, the innocent civilians who also died and also to reflect on the cons of war.…
One of the most important celebrations in Mexico is Independence Day. Our commander in chief, the president of the nation, orders our forces: marines, army, police, and the air force to organize a mega event every September 16th, this is a holiday everybody enjoys.…
Patriot Day is the most important holiday of the year because on this day, not only do we remember the people that were killed in the worst terrorist attack on American soil, we also honor those who serve and have given their lives in the fight against terrorism. On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked; two of the planes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center, one hit the Pentagon, and the other crashed in a field in Pennsylvania (https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/patriot-day/). Nearly 3,000 people were killed in this horrific attack. The attack was done by a radical Muslim organization called Al-Qaeda. This is a day we should never forget because this attack was not just against the people that were killed but against our entire country. There are many important holidays but this is the only one that has united all of America and captivated the entire nation as a whole. It is also a National Day of Service and Remembrance where people honor veterans, soldiers, or first responders by giving them donations, care packages and writing thank you letters for them (http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/History-American/September11.shtml). I can honestly say that everyone that I have ever talked to about what happened on 9/11 knows exactly where they were and what they were doing on this day. This holiday brought us together as a nation in a way that no other holiday does today.…
I am sitting here in the comfort of my home thinking about Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day is about remembering the men and women who risked their lives for our country and its people. If you stop and think about it we wouldn't have homes or all the luxuries we have if it weren't for the soldiers who fought to make our country free. I can't imagine how it would feel to sleep and fight in trenches when we have nice warm comfortable homes. I think the men and women would have been very scared for their families and themselves, but also proud to be fighting for their country.…
I agree with this quote; only because I do think that everyone’s perspective is different. Two people can see an apple on a table and think two completely different things. Which are normal, people tend to interpret things in different ways due to past experiences or important events that have occurred in his/her lifetime. It could have been traumatizing or very beneficial towards a person. I guess you can say a person who has more experience tend to have a more educated outlook on ideas. But young people are known for making mistakes, due to lack of experience.…
