The setting in Liam O’Flaherty’s “The Sniper” enables the story’s action and conflict because it is set during the Irish civil war. To begin, this story short had both internal and external conflicts. The external conflict is, person vs person between the sniper and the enemy sniper. The setting of this story enables that conflict because of how dangerous his surroundings are.
