1.1 And 1.2
I am going to outline the early year’s curriculum models while supporting children’s care, learning and development. I will also be evaluating the relationships between theoretical perspectives and early year’s curriculum models.
There are three early year curriculum models that we follow. They are as follows Birth – 3matters, foundation Phase and Key Stages. Birth – 3 matters
Birth to three is a government framework which supports the learning of under 3''s. It recognizes that all children have from birth a need to develop learning through interaction with people and to explore of the world around them. Babies and young children are social beings and are competent learners from birth. Learning is a shared process and children learn most effectively when, with support of a trusted adult they are actively involved and interested. Birth to three focuses on four main areas of learning and development
A strong child
A healthy child
A competent learner
A skilful communicator
Examples of the kinds of experiences and activities that could be offered to follow Birth – Three
* Natural materials – sand, water, gloop, hay
* Role play – bags, hats, purses
* Small world – railway, farm , dolls house
* Construction – Duplo, stickle bricks, wooden bricks
Foundation Phase
Here are the curriculums and outcomes for 3 to 7 year olds foundation phase
The statutory Areas of Learning in the Foundation Phase are:
• Personal and Social Development, Well-Being and Cultural Diversity
• Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
• Mathematical Development
• Welsh Language Development
• Knowledge and Understanding of the World
• Physical Development
• Creative Development
The Foundation Phase curriculum is planned as a framework
That covers four years (3 to 7 years) to meet the needs of all children, including those who are at an earlier stage of development and those who are more able; children’s learning develops
