Describe how you might contribute to a lesson given to a group of seven year old children learning to play percussion instruments.
Following the plan set out by the teacher, I would firstly organise and set out the required classroom resources e.g. the chairs, tables and sheet music etc. I would then set out the required instruments needed for the lesson ensuring there was enough for the entire group and check that each instrument was safe for the pupils to use. Throughout the activity I would ensure that the school’s health and safety policy was adhered to. During the lesson I would make sure that the children were using the instruments in the correct way, offering support where needed, encouraging the children to behave in the correct manner and promoting good and minimizing bad behaviour. I would demonstrate how to use each instrument, encouraging the pupils to have fun and experiment with the sounds and different ways of using the instruments. I would observe each pupil throughout and record information if required. After the lesson had finished I would encourage the children to tidy away the instruments into the appropriate places, make sure nothing was damaged for the next use and update the inventory. If needed I would review the lesson with the teacher and pass on all information and any concerns.

As effective classroom organisation maximizes the time spent on teaching & learning experiences, my role here is vital.
