Letter to King George III
Dear King George III

We send our gratitude for your soldiers protecting us but we wish to please separate from Great Britain. We, the people of the colonies shall wish you dearly but it is time for us to become our own nation. Please DO NOT be offended by the following Statements.
LISTEN UP GEORGE! We are serious about this matter! We feel that “Taxation without Representation” is WRONG! W-R-O-N-G! Now we understand that Great Britain is having some financial problems but it’s NOT our problem! Taxing our tea? WRONG. Taxing the paper & stamping it? WRONG. Taxing our sugar? WRONG. Like we are SERIOUS, Pay for it YOURSELVES! Tax the people over in Britain! Don’t force it on to us!
Also we would like to say that we`re not pleased with quartering YOUR soldiers! They have deliberately taken OUR jobs. They are big fat butts who are eating all our food! They have taken all our wages! They have taken ground in our homes! & WE ARE SICK OF IT! We don’t like that you don’t trust us so much that you have to take charge of us with your big bad soldiers. We`re sorry but we don’t want them here! Please take your +0000000000soldiers & LEAVE.
Also by the way… the Proclamation of 1763? Hate it! We should be able to move west
321-of the Appalachian Mountains if we please! Your over there in England & leave us alone! Its more fertile westward of our present location of the colonies! We need more land to grow our different crops! Plus it’s not fair that you get to make all the rules! It’s not like you use the land. You just do it to avoid fighting with the Indians! Just stop overruling us just because you have a lot of big tough soldiers! So Please Let Us Be.
So in conclusion we would please like to separate from Great Britain. For the following reasons: Taxation without Representation, The Quartering Act & The Proclamation of 1763. If you please could understand our position we would be most honored. Thank you & It has been good being a part of Britain. Goodbye.

The French defeat in the war paved way to the expansion of British territory throughout the eastern coastline (Document A). The colonists began to settle on the land beyond the Appalachian Mountains, which resulted in tensions with the Natives who primarily resided there. Canassatego, chief of the Onondaga Nation of the Iroquois Confederacy, delivered a speech to the representatives of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. In the speech, he speaks with an accusatory tone as he is angered by the unrightfully settling of the American colonists (Document B). He sees the white settlers as people who spoil his hunting and addresses to the representatives that they know the colonists have no right to settle in the Natives' land. Because of this speech and Pontiac's Rebellion, Britain was forced to implement the Proclamation Line of 1763, which prevented American…

In the 1750’s, British and French representatives met in order to arrange progress due to territorial disputes, but the issue wasn’t solved because they both wanted control over the North American Region. Marquis Duquesne was made governor-general of New France with orders to take over the Ohio Valley, and get rid of the British who were in the area, which was done in 1752. ‘The following year, he had sent troops west of Pennsylvania where they built forts at Presque Island (Lake Erie) and on the Rivière aux Boeufs (Waterford). During the same time, Robert Dinwiddie, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, was giving land in the Ohio Valley to citizens of his colony which inevitably led to the French and Indian War.’…

In 1650, the Navigation Acts effectuated mercantilism, but the colonists were permitted to have their own public legislature among other policies as long as goods were shipped and trade was limited to Britain to encourage its prosperity. In George Washington’s 1755 letter (document C), he expresses his want to serve in the French and Indian War, hoping to contribute to the desired victory. Following the 1763 victory, a reverend’s sermon (document E), very jubilantly thankful about the French and Indian War outcome proclaims the greatness of Britain, and how Britain will make colonies greater than before, when the French occupied the continent. However, the disdain for Britain also grew. A Massachusetts soldier in 1759 (document D), documents the social superiority held by English soldiers, and is upset by the inferior and poor treatment he is receiving in contrast to his English counterparts, and looks forward to returning home. The discussion of the British Order in Council shortly after the end of the French and Indians War (document F) emphasizes keeping the colonies in order, by issuing the Proclamation Line of 1763 to prevent colonists from moving further, for it would be more difficult to source money from dispersion, and that extreme measures including military enforcement to source as much finances as possible to profit Britain, and alleviate its…

I began my journey in August under the leadership of the great General Washington after he received news that the French would join us in September. Although I was extraordinarily skeptical at first, I must admit that our former enemies have been vital to this war for independence. However, my dislike for them still holds somewhat true, being as they were always criticizing the not-as-well equipped Americans. It seems to me that they were not here to fight for our independence, but that they were here to simply see the British lose part of their empire. I’m grateful for their help, but it irks me knowing that they were not here for the right reasons.…

Colonists need to obtain independence immediately to break away from England and overcome the dictatorship of its monarchal government! “A government of our own is our natural right: Ye that oppose independence now, ye know not what ye do; ye are opening a door to eternal tyranny, by keeping vacant the seat of government.” The internal invasion of England is depriving three million people of their rights, liberties, and pursuit of happiness. An invasion occurs not just through violent insurgencies, but through the tolerances of human injustice, degradation of humanity, and abuse of power by England’s own citizens who conceal themselves behind a monarchal government. These subtle approaches to invade a country are more powerful because the acts are…

It has come to be known how much Thomas Jefferson and I dislike on another. I’m sure you already know this. This man is a fool in my opinion and is unfortunately my colleague in your cabinet. This foolish fellow believes that the power of the government should lie in the hands of the masses. This is foolish. Imagine that! The poor and uneducated practically ruling our country! The government should be strong. We as a government should be able to control our people, with force if necessary. Remember Shays Rebellion? That wasn’t too long ago your excellence!…

Salutations, General Washington, it has been an honor serving with you. However, it was very difficult to leave my wife and children, but in the end, it was far worth it. Freedom from the British was a painstaking, grueling task. It put hardships on us all and was difficult from the frigid temperatures, lack of food, losses, and always moving for another battle. I distinctly remember the battles we had fought together.…

In 1763 one of the first things on the colonists’ minds was the great western frontier, which Britain won over when the French ceded the contested territory. The Proclamation of 1763 did little to make that happen and made things worse for the colonists. The proclamation closed the frontier to colonial expansion. This kept the Indians with their own land and the Colonists along the Eastern seaboard. The colonists were banned from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains, meaning that settlers in the Ohio Valley had to move back further east closer to the seaboard.…

As woman who has lived in the Colony of Georgia all of my 17 years, I strongly believe we should declare independence from Great Britain. Great Britain has placed unconstitutional taxes on us, both internal and external. The intolerable acts were used to try to control everything we do, and allow that royal officials are exempt from their own trials by moving the trials elsewhere, so witnesses could not testify. If we secede from Great Britain we can have our own laws and our government. My entire life I have worked hard to help my family earn money, and I have made handmade clothes, cloth, shoes and more when we boycotted British goods. The Stamp Act and Townshend Act have taken most of the little money we have, and Soldiers have overrun our home and eaten the some of the already meager food supply we have. My little brothers and sisters are starving; they cry all night and you can count every one of their ribs. I strongly believe we should secede from the British Empire.…

War is hard but the hardship is not always bayonets and bullets. In December 1777, General George Washington made his winter camp at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The British army under General Howe was only a few miles away in Philadelphia. Washington now has a special problem. Many of his men have signed up to fight for only six months or nine months. Their terms are now coming to an end. The question for Washington is how will be get his men to reenlist. The question for many of us men is "Should I quit?" I have thought long and hard about this but I am deciding to reenlist for three main reasons: the sickness of the men, loyality to my country, and belief in our cause.…
