Hounslow High Street is large shopping area, dedicated to pedestrians only, in comparison with City Road in Cardiff, which carries busy car- traffic and high competition between vehicles and pedestrians ('The Street’, 2009, scene 1). Traffic signs and street markings clearly indicate there is no entry for vehicles and there are several bollards to stop the traffic flow. The exceptions are buses, cyclists, mobility scooters and emergency services. Although the signs and street furniture are provided to benefit the street users, in general terms of giving information and guidance, it may be perceived also as potential hazard or obstructions by visually handicapped pedestrians or people on the wheelchairs. Traffic sings and street furniture are located primary at the centre of the footpath, which may limit the movement of the users and be experienced as threatening. In some circumstances it may lead to injury as most of them are painted in black, which makes them not clearly visible at night.…

Public spaces are places which we have to share with others and where apply shared sets of values or expectations about how people should behave. Social order is very important in social life. Order is part of the way people practice their social existence. It is about how individuals fit together with others and with things around them. Ordering is all the time practised by people and is central to social life. Social order is not easy to make, it involves a lot of things like practices, making everything and everyone fit together and also having in mind ideas about the past and the future (Silva, 2009). Social order needs to be regularly remade, as it delivers rules, norms and expectations which enable people to go about their daily life. Social order is not the same everywhere; each society has its own order and changes across the time (Silva, 2009). The road traffic and the design of streets are one of the examples of the order in social life. Following different strategies about benefits, governments across the time, have wanted to plan, design and carry through the road systems which segregate pedestrians and motor vehicles (Silva, 2009). This essay will explore two different strategies for relations between humans and vehicles on the roads. First one is the Buchanan Report from 1963, which stated on the segregation of cars and pedestrians. Second one is based on the idea of ‘shared space’ from Dutch engineer, Hans Monderman. Also this essay will look at Goffman’s and Foucalt’s work in this subject.…

Maria, a client in Buffalo, New York calls and says, “as you Know, I am a contractor who specializes in repair of problems that arise in commercial buildings. I’m thinking of inserting a provision in all of my contracts that requires any dispute to first be mediated and if that does not work, to be arbitrated by an arbitrator who is a member of the American Arbitration Association. I am nervous as to whether the New York state courts will enforce these sorts of provisions, especially if they are part of my form contract. Do me a favor: Do some research from federal and state case law in New York and let me know what New York courts’ attitudes have been to arbitration and mediation clauses, and in general what the courts have said about the desirability of using ADR methods to settle disputes.…

The problem of CBD area is very severe. Due to the limitation of space, the land value is high and buildings here are tall and high density. Few people actually live in this area, but lots of people go shopping, working here. Functional areas are too concentrated, which will lead traffic congestion because of too many cars. Many local authorities have tried to solve the problem of too many cars by only allowing pedestrians in certain areas of the CBD. Also, many have built suburban railway, subway, flyovers and bypasses to relief the traffic pressure. Even, some cities have congestion fees to keep vehicles out of the CBD. Multicenter city is very essential to give people more choices. As for the booming of large out-of- town shopping centers, some parts of the CBD have become run down and caused urban decay. Water, land and air pollution and high noise are very common in the city center due to heavy traffic, large numbers of workers and nearby heavy industry. The same pollution problem exists in transition zone because of old housing and light manufacturing industry. This are dates back to the industrial revolution when it filled with coal-fired factories and high-density housing. The lower classes, unassimilated immigrants, artists, and the young and the restless, lived in the slums, badlands, submerged regions, immigrant colonies, and underworlds of the zone of transition. This will lead to security problems in the region. As for the problem of inner city, large parts of inner cities were in decay by the 1960’s and 1970’s because of poor quality housing with a lack of space, a decaying environment with pollution, and unemployment due to the closure of the old-fashioned industries. To solve those problems, we need to restart everything and redevelopment comprehensively unless the local authorities were able to renewal the current housing to make it fit for modern…

I’m contacting you about an issue that is of deep concern to the resident's and myself. The Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School/Community Centre/Scouts in the Vanier area. Their in the need of a proper play ground for the children to play. The play area for the children is all pavement and fencing, they also have no where for the kinder gardeners to play, the structure is old and rusted and its all fenced in. There also ain't no ramp for any child with a weel chair, there is also a shed in the back with a lawn mower which is unsafe for the children to play around. They also don't have a lot of parking for parent's to pick up their children. Making a bigger parking lot for the parents to pick up their children. The street issue is that the road of Baribeau St. need speed bumps because of the traffic around corners and speeding down the streets, while their are children in the area. There are so many issues with the Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School/Community Centre/Scouts that would benefit the public, the children and their families. Their mission is to offer academic excellence in an Islamic atmosphere and a quality learning environment to build and develop an integrated Islamic identity. The school - who consists of students, teachers and parents - will promote spiritual and moral values consistent with respect and good citizenship within the Canadian society. The school has 3 acres of property, which includes a tennis court, and fenced in preschool playground. But there is no playground for the older children but a tennis court, some children would love a playground to climb on instead of playing on pavement with balls. Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School/Community Centre/Scouts has a fully equipped science lab, brand new computer lab, gymnasium, library, and prayer room. They recently had a fire in the computer room. They might need some funding for repairs. Donations are always welcome, We are currently accepting contributions to the upcoming…

In an effort to understand the noise calls for service on Sagewood, all calls were analysed by the SMPD and included the geospatial relationship of the complainant and the site of the noise. The results of this analysis showed that in 2007, the SMPD received a total of 92 call outs for service relating to noise complaints. By location of the neighbourhood, it was determined that one residence, which was directly adjacent to the 800 block on Sagewood, was responsible for 23 of the complaints received. The police themselves initiated 33 complaints while on patrol, 17 complaints came from residents of Sagewood and the remainder of the complaints came from the other streets bordering Sagewood. The data also showed that the 800 Sagewood block was the source of the majority of the noise, with 55 complaints received, the 900 block responsible for 29 complaints received and the 1000 block responsible for 8 complaints. Urbanization is the process of the physical growth of a city either by migration from the countryside area or due to the natural increase of people within the city. It also refers to the change from a predominantly agricultural economy to industrial business and mass production. According to Antrop (2004),” Urbanization is a complex process of change of rural lifestyles into urban ones”. The phenomenon of urbanization has increased all over the world. It is driven by the desire to improve lifestyle and better job opportunities. “The world is undergoing massive urbanization”, (Tannerfeldt and Ljung, 2006). Many problems have arisen from uncontrolled urbanization. A rapid increase in the amount of traffic has become a common pattern of an urbanization transition and requires effective responses. This essay will use the urbanization of Hanoi city as an example of uncontrolled growth, and highlight the consequences of urbanization in terms of traffic congestion. This essay will discuss three relevant responses: firstly, a vehicle free zone policy; secondly, electronic road pricing and finally using a vehicle quota system. Finally, this essay will evaluate their relative effectiveness in terms of constraints. This essay might help the local authority to encounter the traffic congestion in Hanoi to some extent.…
