Mrs. Cheryl Ramos-Peralta Dean of UST-CRS

Re: Application for academic placement

Warm Greetings!
I, Coleen V. Español, a determined student to be part of Thomasian Community, asks sincerely to be accepted for my academic placement which is B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. I know I haven’t met with the required cut-off scores for my preferred course, but then I still hope of being accepted towards the steps of becoming a Thomasian Pathologist. Being an ordinary student, I am also intimidated by others. Looking at their results, I also wish I was in their state. From the visions and values taught by our school, I never thought of giving up even though others told me to do so. Not passing my preferred course which is B.S. in Tourism taught me to try different path and it doesn’t mean that I can’t take or choose other courses that are being referred to me but, to learn from my mistakes and to believe in second chances. I am willing to take any chances just to follow my chosen course B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology.

I choose B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology because I would like to help people who are having communication disorders I think being able to help and assist them will make me feel happy knowing that I can help people who are in need. Applying for this course entitles a lot of respect for others, self-discipline and strong concentration for my future patients and so I have this thinking that UST will be able to teach me things required for being a Pathologist. 5-6 years from now I see myself happy because I love what I do, I love my job and being able to see my patients smile and recuperate with their disorders. I might be working here in the Philippines or in the other country, wherever God leads me to.

Ever since my childhood days, it was my dream to enter University of Sto. Tomas, following my steps as a consistent catholic student. If ever I may be considered,

When considering my attributes as a medical school applicant, I am convinced that I would be a great fit for the Creighton University School of Medicine community. As mentioned in my previous response, I am from a Christian background and intend to continually pursue my relationship with God throughout my years in medical school. Seeing as though Creighton is founded in a religious tradition, my belief in God makes me an excellent example for the reinforcement of the Catholic tradition. My heart has been set on the pursual of good and helping others since a very young age which has led me to a career in medicine, a character trait that fits in well with Creighton University’s endeavor to improve the human condition. As well as my religious background and heart to serve others, I place a lot of emphasis on self-discipline and strive for excellence in all aspects of my life.…

Looking at my reasons for embarking in this program overall, has been rather interesting to me. After graduating from my High School in the Bronx, I barely had any knowledge of what the Speech & Language field was all about. I was first introduced to it by a close friend whose stepmother worked as a Speech pathologist in New York City. She had mentioned how she became interested in the field, and even suggested it to me. I was going to come into the University at Buffalo undecided, but the minute she told me about this field I was captivate. I decided to do some research, and gain knowledge on what the major was all about and the different directions that one can take when working in this field. I am someone who has always loved to eventually work with children, so this field became even more interesting when I knew that working with children was a possibility.…

It is an intellectually motivating career being a Speech-Language Pathologist regardless of which of the path one may choose educational or medical. Speech-language pathology allows you to apply your knowledge to benefit others and most importantly to me, however, it feels good helping clients to overcome communication difficulties. It is hard to believe that I have spent the last ten years working as a speech therapist, and it is harder to conceive that it continues to be an exciting field for me despite the many challenges. Gaining admission into the Master's program at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for Speech-Language Pathology is an essential component in fulfilling my dream. As I persist to submerge myself in the field, I am more avid about gaining the knowledge and expertise to create a better quality of life for individuals with communication impairments.…
