Community service is what makes the society much more joyful to live in. Some think community service is painful and they are only doing it because they are forced to and the need it to pass their high school, well I have a different opinion and I would like to share it. Community service can be really joyful because what goes around comes around meaning: the fact that I help someone I will get it back doesn't matter if it's in a day two months or forty years. What I am trying to say is that we shouldn't take community service as a punishment but more as an achievement.
My achievement this year was to mentor and shadow a kid with down syndrome for twenty hours. this was once again a really good and fun experience just like last year! I really enjoy the time spent with Elishay. going to the park, playing video games and playing sports is what I really enjoy doing with him, but there comes time where we have to do homework which isn't so fun but I enjoy it since I could pass on stuff I learnt to a new student who is in need. There was no routine when I went to visit Elishay, everyday was different: if it was a homework visit, we would always switch subjects every time from math to english to science and even art! and when it was time to play I would always have a different activity in mind.
From my experience with Elishay i learnt a lot of lessons. First of all, it is not easy living with down syndrome for multiple reasons: you think you are not like the others and you have difficulties speaking/elaborating your thoughts. Second, I learnt that community service could also be fun as in playing sports, we went multiple times to Chamberlain Park next to his house to play soccer and basketball. Finally, it isn't always easy helping out your community but it is for the best and you will feel great afterwards.
If I were the one receiving the service I'd feel great because I know it isn't always easy for a
