Leif Ericsson Research Paper

Leif Ericson was an explorer. His father, (Eric the Red) was the founder of the first European settlement on modern day Greenland. Since Leif Ericson’s father was an explorer, he was motivated to explore. Ericson was born in 965 A.D and died in 1020 A.D. Even though he only lived to be 55, he was a very important explorer. As was tradition with the Vikings, Leif did not grow up with his family. when he was eight he moved in with a man named Thyrker. Thyrker was from Germany where Eric the Red had captured him, had taken him to Iceland, but did not enslave him. Thyrker taught Leif everything he would need to know. When Leif was not learning he and his friends would watch the ships come into the harbor, then he would listen to the tales of the sailors.
According to one part of the story, before arriving to norway; ericson sailed off course on his way back to greenland and landed in North America, where he explored vinland. another part of the story is, that he originally wanted to go to Vinland because of a old story about a Icelandic trader becoming rich in Vinland. But after spending a winter in vinland, Leif sailed back to Greenland, and promised never to visit North America again.
Leif Erikson’s explorations changed the world in positive ways. Some of the ways were that now the Vikings had a whole new land to explore, and Vikings had a whole new opportunity to create a relationship with the local tribes and villages, to learn more about them, and work together to build a community.
Leif ericson put all the effort he had into exploring new land. As a reward, in 1964 a new holiday was established. The new holiday was Leif Ericson day. Thats right, on October 9th every year we celebrate the hard effort that leif ericson put into his
