Introduction- In this assignment I will be summarising the key aspects of current legislative requirements and codes of practice relevant to the teaching of beauty and holistic therapies in post-16 colleges. ‘’These can be grouped into generic, i.e. relating to your role as a teacher, and specific, i.e. relating to your specialist subject.’’ Gravells (2011:15)
Specific Legislation and Codes of Practice include-
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999) - The employer must make assessments of the risks of the health and safety of their employees. Risk assessments must be carried out in order to assess work hazards and how to remove or minimise them. For example pregnant women must abide to less physical duties

These regulations are in place to protect any employees who may be exposes to a health risk or injury in the course of their work. For example gloves must be worn when carrying out any form of waxing.
COSHH Regulations- Control of substances hazardous to health, all possible risks from chemicals must be minimised by a risk assessment of those chemicals. This must be carried out to determine how hazardous substances should be properly handled and stored. For example chemicals such as, Barbicide and surgical spirit.
RIDDOR- This is the reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations. Injuries diseases and dangerous occurrences need to be reported to the local environmental health department. If anybody dies or has a serious accident in connection with the college or if the teacher develops an occupational disease then this regulation must be abided by.
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations- All equipment used in the college must be suitable and maintenance records kept up to date efficiently for the job intended. All staff must be adequately trained in its
