Legalization of Gay Marriage

Legalization of gay marriage Being gay is still not accepted by everyone, but homosexuality is spreading around the globe, even in the places where homosexual relationship is considered a crime. Nowadays, some countries as well as governments are against homosexuality, while in other countries are demanding for legalizing same-sex marriage. Eventhough gay marriage had been for so long a controversial topic, people are still not accepting the idea, and large crowds are still demonstration against it. In my opinion same sex marriage should be legalized in all countries because it is a benefit for the economy and a civil right; however many believe that gay marriages can have a negative impact on adopted children. Same-sex marriage can have a positive impact on the economy. Given that the number of gay people in our world is increasing year after year, wedding events would also increase therefore, the good financial impact can positively affect the government budget. According to Holtz-Eakin “state and federal budgets will actually get a positive boost if gay couples are allowed to marry” (as cited in Badget, 2012) parag.2. the country will benefit from same sex marriage mainly because of all the wedding fees than can be costly, especially for those who seek big parties and weddings. For example, the amount of money spent on flowers, cakes, bands, meals, photographers, hotels, tourism and of course on honeymoons if the couples are planning to stay in their own country. Actually every dime spent on any luxury for wedding will sooner or later return to the government budget directly or even indirectly. According to Badget, (2012) “hundreds of thousands of excited couples would start planning weddings, generating at least $ 1,5 billion, by my calculation. And of course all those purchases generate millions in sales tax revenue for state and local governments” (para.5). In addition to all that governments in countries that began to legalize gay marriage, benefited goodways. According to Good kind, (2013) “municipalities would increase revenue because of wedding licensing fees; New York City received a reported $ 250 million in revenue after lifting their ban on gay marriage” (para.7). Moreover, employers are defending the legalizing of same-sex marriage, and according to Badget, (2012) “a gay man who lives in Massachusetts with his husband might not want to transfer to an office in Ohio where his marriage isn’t recognized” (para.4). Another reason why same sex marriage should be legalized, because it is a civil right. People should be allowed to marry whomever they want as long as it is an adult. If we believe in human rights, we certainly need to accept that marriage is one of the major human rights. According to “Same Sex Marriage”, 2013 “civil rights are those rights that a person should be recognized to process simply because he or she is a citizen” (para.4). Actually, in our world justice and equality are a requirement for every living being, and it is considered an essential right in order to live in dignity and honor. According to declaration of independence, “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” (as cited in “Same Sex Marriage”, 2013, para.4). furthermore, these rights are given to all men with no exception, and instead of fighting these rights and ruining people’s life by allowing discrimination, we should be grateful to our ancestors for the great job they have done ages ago for “expanding understanding of civil rights” (“Same Sex Marriage”, 2013, para.6). Moreover, according to Same Sex Marriage, (2013) “civil rights had led our nation to address wrongs and to make moral progress in ending wrongful discrimination”. Eventhough, all these laws are describing human and civil rights, there are still current law discrimination that governments need to work on. Given that getting married is also a right, we should not be distinguishing between heterosexual and homosexual marriage. We are not supposed to interfere with other people’s life. For example, according to Philby, (2013) when two Pakistani lovers (lesbians) got married recently in London, they were actually threatened by their families and also by the Pakistani community in London. People are still denying humans and women’s right. Also, according to Harris (2013) “marriage is a legal issue about vital inalienable rights that should be granted to every Law-abiding citizen” (para.4). Time changes, we are not living in the 4th century anymore, believe it or not it is the 21st century, therefore people change, politics change as well. According to Harris, (2013) “Politics change. And they are certainly changing now. Somewhere from 53 % to 58 % of Americans support gay marriage”. And ironically this number is the same as the percentage of people supporting human rights in 1963 “A year before the civil right act” (Para.5). Actually we need to determine, whether we want to stand on right side in forming the history and creating a new world for our children. Many believe that homosexual marriage is negatively influencing adopted kids by homosexual couples because it is abusive to kids. Being raised by gay people is abusive and altering the child’s right. According to McKenzie, (2012) “to say to a child I am having you adopted by two men who kiss regularly but don’t worry about it that is abusive” (as cited in Charley, 2012, para.9). It is considered an offence against children, because they did not get the chance to be raised in a normal environment, under the responsibility of both heterosexual parents (McKenzie, 2012). Moreover, gay parents are raising their kids as if there are no heterosexual present in this world and they are convincing and encouraging them to follow their own example, which would confuse the child into assuming their sexual identity. Also, adoption has never been understood among us. And according to Barreiro-Carambula, (2011) adoption is actually an old situation found in all ancient communities. And the objective of the formation of such agencies was mainly to find a loving home for orphans. For example a boy who has lost his family is in need to live in a normal family and environment with the presence of both father and mother. According to Barreiro-Carambula, (2011) “this is why a couple that does not receive the gift of children through natural means cannot use artificial means that are against the native nature of marriage to obtain a child”. Religion does not accept adoption by heterosexual marriage, the only question remains why should gay couples be allowed to adopt. Also, exposing children to such meaningful relationships can hinder the natural development of kids. Eventhough gay adoption can be abusive to children, but children can be abused by all kinds of parents heterosexual or homosexual. Living in a normal environment and being raised by heterosexual parents does not always mean that children are totally safe. There are some parents that do not care about their children even if they are blood related. Also there are some fathers who can assault their kids. Compared to child abuse done by traditional couples, gay parents are better parents than others non gay. Moreover, gay parents can be beneificial for kids to appreciate everyone around them and to accept homosexual as well as heterosexuals. Furthermore, people claim that prenting should be done by only two heterosexual human beings should recognize that there are a large number of single parents on our world, and their kids turned out to be perfectly fine ( kripke, 2013). To conclude, same sex marriage is not hurting anyone and should be allowed because it can benefit the economy and mostly it is a right for everyone; however there are some beliefs that same sex marriage could hurt adopted children in many means.
