The ancient Nordic religion was commonly followed and practiced by people in northern regions of the world, such as Scandinavia, Norway, Iceland and surrounding countries. The beliefs of this religion are extremely unique and follow individualistic stories of creation, morals and more founded by the originals of the Nordic religion. The story of creation, involving the land, people and some of their gods follows the belief of two lands with different extreme temperatures came together, Niflheim and Muspellheim. Niflheim being the icy, cold and water land and muspellheim being the fiery, hot and lava land, combining Niflheim melted and unvealed two living creatures, Ymer and Audhumla. Ymer was a giant and Audhumla a female cow which together created the first gods, Odin, Vile and Ve. These Gods in turn created life on their own account. Odin created the first form of human beings with the help of an elm and ash tree. Landforms and other forms of life were created form the body of Ymer when it was killed during a disagreeance with the Gods.

The living locations were divided amongst a princible belief of a world tree or Yggdrasil as the Nordic’s called it, which separated realms specified to different races and Gods. The Asgard which was situation in the canopy of the tree was believed to be the heaven and many Gods lived there including Odin. Vanahiem and Aflheim were situated near by and were beleievd to be the realms of the “divine”. The middle section called the Midgard was the realm of the human, which also included Nidavellir, Jotunheim and Svartalfhiem which was home to dwarfs, giants and dark

The Iroquois’s value of nature is not present in the Norse creation story as it is in the Iroquois myth. The Iroquois express their idea that animals are meant to serve them in the creation story in the fact that the muskrat and other animals risked their lives to try to get dirt for the woman. In “Odin and Ymir,” only a cow is mentioned, while in “The World on the Turtle’s Back” many animals are mentioned such as “turtles,” “muskrats],” “birds” and more (1). Another variation between the two creation myths is the explanation of the passage of the sun and moon. The Norse creation story says there is a “chariot that carries the sun across the skies,” but in the Iroquois myth, the sun moves from the woman who fell’s walking around the earth…

Native title was not recognised in Australia until 1992 when the High Court in the Mabo decision overturned the doctrine of terra nullius. This led to the legislation of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and the establishment of the National Native Title Tribunal. Now Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders had the right to make native title claims but this was a very expensive, slow and time-consuming process making it ineffective for Indigenous people to regain ownership of their traditional land. The Native Title Amendment Act 1998 (Cth) also restricted the rights of Indigenous Australians.…

The oral traditions of the earliest European ancestors depict a realm in which gods and giants are at a constant battle, fated to destruct their universe. As the Norse Myths retell the driving force of divine power and influence between giants and gods, their opposing relationship provides an insight to understanding the dynamics of Yggdrasill. The Norse Myths seek to prove that the gods are morally advanced whereas the giants are naturally stagnant, providing an antagonistic relationship through interactions of fertile gods overcoming sterile giants.…

Originating from Pre-Christian Germanic speaking tribes, Norse Gods were heavily worshipped by the Vikings. Most of what we know about the Viking Gods comes from the Poetic Edda. The Poetic Edda, or Elder Edda, is a book containing stories of the Viking Gods. Scandinavian poems also offer some history of the Norse Gods (Myths Encyclopedia). These Gods all lived in their own halls of Asgard. The main God, Odin lived in the hall of Valhalla, which is also the Vikings version of a heaven and they are only admitted if they died fighting in Viking battle (Vikings Clan). Of the Viking Gods, other than Odin, Thor is most widely recognized.…
