Moving on is easy but what you leave behind is what makes it hard. Once you get to a certain age in your life you know you have to move on sometime. I know times are hard but you have to push yourself toward what you really want in life even if it means moving away from what you love.…
Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…
The recent summer rainstorms have transformed the roadways, of Wrongberight a rural hamlet on the eastern shores of Virginia, into a never-ending slip and slide. Late Saturday afternoon, vivacious Clemmy Sue Jarvis, a petite woman of sixty three, cautiously pulled out of her driveway, and slowly turned south on to Flat Bottom Road. She maneuvered the rain soaked road with great care. Nevertheless, fifty yards from her dearest friend Estelle Louise’s long dirt driveway, her rusty Chevy pickup, that she has kept mobile for years with hairpins, bubble gum, and duct tape, skidded across a massive oil slick. As a result, the pickup spins in wide circles as…
We moved into a fan formation and lost sight of each other. As I walked forward I saw the branches in front of me move. I stopped in my tracks. In Front of me was a huge black bear. I grabbed my gun and shot it in the air. The bear started to run towards me and I ran. I ran back the way I came. Sprinting I started to scream for my life until I fell the cold hard dirt was the last thing I felt before I felt the snap of my back as the bear landed on it. The cold ground started to warm as my vision blurred. The loud noise of a gunshot was the last thing I heard before I blacked…
Quickly I went to get my father out of his bed and ran to towards the gate. When we almost got there my father started to slow down so I drag him to the gate. And when I got through the gate, my father got caught half through the gate then he pushes me through the gate with a very strong strength that I didn't know he had. I was scared and worried about my father but at the same time my father want this for me so I was running fast as I can to start a new life my father want me to have. Suddenly I heard a gun fire then I couldn't move, couldn't breathe and started crying at the moment I saw straight…
I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…
2390 East Huntsville Road, I was 5 years old and use to my dad never being around always working until 3 am at his work. I don't remember waking up with my dad being home, but that had been life since I can remember. What I do remember is that I consider it the worst day of my life. I was 6 years old at the time, I got picked up from school by my mother who had a very cold look on her face the car ride home, but I didn’t think much of it. She was an adult and adults got upset easily. When we pulled into the drive I got out and I was excited to share my day with her, today for me was like every other day. But something was different, my father was home. My dad and mom asked me to come into their room for a minute, the…
Skiing is one big, sharing hobby that everyone in our family enjoys… even my mom can do it! It’s such a fun bonding time, and we always go over Christmas break. We usually go to Minnesota, but this time we went to Galena, Illinois to Chestnut Mountain Resort!…
It was the most casual winter day of the year. My body under a blanket, Hot chocolate in one hand and a T.V. Remote in the other. I was flipping from channel to channel trying to find a show that I could settle on. My eyes were glued to the bright screen, although I could see each and every snowflake falling out of the sky. It was hard not to admire. Here in Michigan, We have the most beautiful winters, and the nicest of summers. I love to diversity that comes with all the weather rather than having a dreaded summer all year like in Florida, and a harsh year round winter like Alaska. The hot chocolate that I had just whipped up was still scorching hot and was burning my lips after every sip. The whipped cream helped dim the chocolates temperature. After searching almost every channel, I decided that I should just watch some ESPN. I usually didnt watch ESPN that often because they often report the same things over and over. I remember once when I was about 10 years old and Rob Gronkowski was injured. One day I saw that they were…
My dad, Al, and I, have shared a decent amount in common throughout our lives, and I thought it was pretty interesting. Although we have grown up in different environments, we still have the same old fights with our siblings, or times where we actually stood up for our siblings. My dad has inspired me to do many things with my life, and has helped me to become a better person. In these stories you will see success and failure, but it all leads up to the path that we have taken today.…
Eat, Train, Sleep. That is the mantra you have when you are preparing for a fight. Except this time it is the fight of my life. I fought my way to the top to be the next world heavyweight champion. Since I challenged the current heavyweight champ I have been training everyday for ten hours and now I am a force to be reckoned with. Today at seven A.M. two days before my fight I start to train again like every other day.…
You crouched down, put your hands on the ground, and stood on your head to talk to me.…
When I was much younger, I had the opportunity to live in rural Georgia. While living there I had the assumption, since I had medical insurance everyone else does too. During this time I made some friends of which I had learned their family did not have health insurance. This raised my awareness of various topics. The first was not everyone is the same and not everyone has what you have. Looking back after reading and the live classroom, I realize having health insurance was a privilege, and in my case could be considered an unearned privilege. This is due to the fact my health insurance, which was earned by my father who was serving in the US Air Force, was given to me because I was his dependent. Listening to the live classroom, I came across some similarities as my classmates.…
It was a typical Friday night for Chantilly and Johnny, the big and little hand were now place on 12:00 , it was midnight exactly and the sound of their mom snoring was like music to their ears, that meant it was time. Chantilly and Johnny looked at each, the clock and nodded. “Let’s go.” They had devious intentions. As the tipped toed out the door, hearing nothing but the creeks in the floor and the sound of their mother snoring. They ran through the backyard past her bedroom, trying not to make to much noise, stepping through the yard, hearing the cracking sound of the sticks. Ducking the censored house light so it wouldn’t shine through neighborhood on that ark night. She remembers vividly, the only thing from keeping the outside from being…
One evening I had just sat down to watch the darkened scene below, when I saw a young looking man walking quickly toward a running car, parked under one of the only two street lights. He appeared to be nervous as he continued to look back over his shoulders. I watched more intently now. Then, just as suddenly as I noticed him, I saw three men in black, almost concealed in the darkness, moving swiftly up behind him. I watched as the shortest of the three pulled a gun out and began firing at the lone man. When I saw him hit the ground, I about fell out of my chair. Just as quickly as the three appeared, they vanished into a pitch black alley. I sat there trembling from what I had just witnessed. Too scared to call the police, I finally retreated to bed.…
